Campus at a Glimpse

If you’ve had a chance to visit the Techno India University campus, you probably would have mistaken it to be one of those big MNC corporate offices - yes, that’s how it appears to be from the outside! Located in the corporate hub of Salt Lake, Kolkata, the campus of Techno India University spreads across 300 acres of land with a multi-storied building and well-designed infrastructure. The campus boasts big classrooms, a large auditorium, laboratories, an incubation centre, a hostel and much more. Not only that, TIU is popularly known to conduct regular events and workshops, build partnerships and collaborations with national and international organisations and most importantly offer ample job opportunities to the students.

The total annual student intake at Techno India University is about 8,000-10,000 for the multiple courses that the university offers. TIU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and PhD programmes in multiple disciplines such as technology, science, management, law, nursing, humanities, commerce, design, IT, architecture, pharmacy and paramedical sciences. The courses offered at TIU are recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Although TIU appears to be a decent pick for students, a closer inspection will help in deciding its overall reputation, quality of education offered and the overall placement scenario.

Techno India University Ranking: Not So Good!

Year

Agency

All India Rank

2023

IIRF

100

2022

87

  • Founded by the Techno India Group, Techno India University holds accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and approvals from both the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Our Take:

Techno India University's inclusion in the IIRF and its absence from other notable rankings such as NIRF, Times, or QS prompt inquiries regarding the institution's overall reputation and dedication to excellence. Although securing a place in the IIRF is commendable, the observed decline in rank from 2022 to 2023 hints at potential challenges in sustaining its performance. Moreover, the absence of rankings from renowned agencies like NIRF, Times, or QS raises apprehensions about the university's engagement in these assessments and its willingness to undergo thorough scrutiny.

Aside from that, the accreditation bestowed upon Techno India University by the NBA, along with approvals from the UGC and AICTE, signifies the institution's commitment to maintaining elevated standards of education and quality. Such recognitions carry substantial importance for prospective students, and employers, and contribute significantly to the university's esteemed reputation.

Techno India University Academia & Batch Size

TIU boasts of having more than 8K students, offering 50+ courses through 11 schools of study led by a group of 300+ highly distinguished faculty members further resulting in a good faculty-student ratio. The pedagogy of TIU’s courses has been designed to offer skill-based learning through practical and theoretical approaches. The curriculum includes a variety of teaching methods, such as lectures, tutorials, practical sessions and projects to help students learn effectively.

However, contrary to the above, as per our research, students have been found complaining about the teaching methodologies and the overall expertise level of most of the teachers at Techno India University, barring a few senior faculty members who have been praised by the students. Also, no information related to the course-wise batch size, faculty member list and the faculty-student ratio have been disclosed by the university, resulting in a sceptical opinion in students' minds.

Our Take:The unavailability of academic records is a bummer! Students aspiring for Techno India Univeristy admission can't cross-check the details such as student intake per programme, class size, teacher-to-learner ratio, etc. These details are important for students to take the right step and the university should provide this.

Our Take:

Techno India University offers various infrastructure facilities such as classrooms, internet access, a library, hostels, auditoriums, and cafes to its students. The quality of these facilities varies, with some receiving positive feedback and others receiving mixed or negative reviews. Overall, the quality of infrastructure facilities at Techno India University is considered average. While some facilities are well-maintained and cater to students' needs, there is room for improvement in certain areas. Student feedback highlights the importance of addressing issues related to cleanliness, maintenance, and updating the library's collection.

Techno India University Internships and Placements

Techno India University Internships:

TIU claims to offer internship opportunities to final-year students by connecting them with recruiters. The university conducts interviews for students with recruitment companies for their selection. However, no proper data is available for reference.

Techno India University Placement:

Techno India University is a part of Techno India Group (TIG), which conducts pool placements for all its institutes in a centralised way. TIU’s placement information mentions that top recruiting companies such as Google, Microsoft, Tata, IBM, Deloitte, Accenture, Cognizant, Honeywell, Wipro, Capgemini, etc. offer jobs to its students. However, there is no relevant official data available for the salary packages (highest package, average package) offered to the students, which raises a question on the authenticity of the claim!

As per some data available online (not verified or officially available) for 2021, the TIU placements for B.Tech, have been mentioned below:

What truly sets Techno India University apart is its extensive alumni network of half a million individuals, comprising B.Techs, M.Techs, and PhDs. This alumni community has produced exceptional leaders in technology and management, contributing to various global corporate houses, research facilities, and educational institutions. The university's strategic industry integration, alignment with industry demands, and a well-planned Central Grooming & Placement Cell have consistently ensured favourable placements. Currently, Techno India University proudly acknowledges its 500,000 alumni who are successfully employed in leading multinational companies globally, with many pursuing higher studies in some of the world's top universities.

Our Take:

As per the students, pool campus placements create a high competition among students. CSE, ECE and MCA programmes achieve around 100% placement. The rest core subjects in engineering and other courses do not even touch a 50% placement percentage. A few students reported it to be as low as 10% to 20% in the previous year. The average salary at TIU sails between Rs 3 to 4 LPA. Though the placement rate is low, some students are satisfied with the opportunity to participate in the placement process for top MNCs such as Google, Microsft, Intel and Amazon.

Techno India University Diversity & Representation

TIU is a global university. It accepts international students and students from other states of India for admission. The university claims to have a huge number of international applicants from more than 10 countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Ghana, Togo, Thailand and Nigeria. A few events representing global inclusion are mentioned below.

  • An Indo-Japan Delegation visit to Techno India University for collaboration and development in the field of Sustainability was organised on August 24, 2023.
  • The IEEE International Conference on Computer, Electrical and Communication Engineering will be held on the 2nd and 3rd Feb 2023.

Our Take:

TIU accepts students from other states of India. However, most seats are filled by the students of West Bengal as reported by the students. Also, the university hasn’t released any self-study report or information related to male to female ratio and the number of students within the state, outside the state and abroad. Due to the lack of proper data, the presence of diversity on the campus remains unknown.

Techno India University Faculty/College Administration & Management

Techno India University, founded in 2013, is a private university acknowledged by UGC and AICTE. The university is overseen by a Board of Management, consisting of distinguished academicians and industry professionals. The daily operations of the university are managed by a team of experienced administrators and faculty members. The administrative team of TIU is led by Dr. Sujoy Biswas, director of Techno India University.

The university takes pride in its exceptional and well-respected faculty members who possess impressive educational qualifications, a global perspective, notable publication records, and substantial work experience in their respective fields. All faculty members hail from renowned national and international universities. The university maintains an excellent faculty-student ratio. The dedicated faculty at TIU is actively contributing to shaping the nation's future through their deep commitment as enthusiastic educators and researchers.

Our Take:

Based on students’ reviews on Quora, B.Tech and BCA have competent faculty members. However, others have criticised the way of teaching which involves more theoretical knowledge than practical implementation. Some of the students are of the view that the faculty of most of the departments are clueless about the subject they are teaching. As per students, the university refrains from providing study and lab materials and demands reasoning from the teachers about its needs. Students have busted the incompetence of the faculty members at TIU by claiming that the teachers provide internet-copied notes and research papers, behave badly with the students, follow no proper syllabus, and several other allegations.

Techno India University Location

TIU is located in Sector V, Bidhannagar, Kolkata, West Bengal, which is a corporate hub. The locality is well-developed constituting commercial hubs, employment hubs, and social and retail infrastructure. Sector V is well connected via road, rail and airway. It is 15 km from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, 6 km from Bidhan Nagar Railway Station and 9 km from Sealdal Railway Station. The locality will receive metro connectivity shortly.

TIU is surrounded by various educational institutions such as IIHM and TISL, business parks such as Wipro campus and DLF IT Park and offices of leading companies such as IBM, Capgemini, Cognizant, TCS, Genpact India, Tech Mahindra and Ericsson.

The presence of top organisations in the vicinity of Techno India University can help students during internship searches and walk-in interviews for jobs. A professional environment can be sensed around the locality of TIU.

Our Take:

Pros:

  • TIU's Salt Lake campus is conveniently linked to the city's bus and metro networks, facilitating easy commuting for students from different parts of Kolkata and nearby areas.
  • Situated in the heart of Kolkata, the university provides students with proximity to a variety of cultural attractions, shopping centres, and entertainment options.
  • Being located in Kolkata, a significant hub for industries such as IT, manufacturing, and finance, the campus offers students accessible internship and employment opportunities.

Cons:

  • Kolkata is recognized for its traffic congestion, making travel to and from the campus a potentially time-consuming and stressful experience.
  • Air and noise pollution are notable issues in Kolkata, especially around busy roads and industrial zones.
  • Additionally, the city tends to be relatively more expensive compared to other parts of India, which might pose a challenge for students on a budget.
  • Even with the challenges tied to its location, TIU successfully draws students from West Bengal and various parts of India.

Techno India University: Expectation vs Reality CLD Verdict!

Techno India University positions itself as a promising higher learning institution, emphasizing its robust academic standing, connections with industries, and lively campus atmosphere. On the academic front, TIU lives up to its commitment by offering a challenging learning experience. With seasoned faculty and a focus on practical learning, students benefit from valuable opportunities like internships and placements, enhancing their industry exposure and readiness for the workforce. The university's Kolkata location further provides access to a variety of cultural attractions and job prospects.

However, TIU faces some shortcomings when compared to other well-established institutions and universities in India. The university's relatively high tuition fees, along with additional expenses, may put a strain on students' finances. The administration is seen as being overly strict, and there is limited emphasis on research and innovation. While the campus facilities are modern, there is room for improvement in terms of additional amenities.

The university's international exposure and opportunities for global engagement are also limited. Although the alumni network is growing, it is not as extensive as those of older institutions. The support for entrepreneurship could be more comprehensive, and there is variation in the level of student engagement in extracurricular activities.
