5 mistakes made by students while preparing for JEE Main exam

Wrong plan of action

2

Prefer quality over quantity (in terms of books and prep material)

3

Time management issues

4

Avoiding in-between self analysis

5

Inconsistency in revision

Let us look at each pointer descriptively to have better insights.

Wrong plan of action

Typically, candidates' top priority when they begin JEE Main 2024 preparation is to locate the best books and study materials so they can plan their strategy. This may seem like a good idea at first, but having too many study materials can be confusing and distracting. It is advised that candidates focus instead on the NCERT books, which should serve as the mainstay of their preparation. This textbook can be used by JEE aspirants to ensure they cover every chapter required to get ready for the exam.

NCERT books are well-known to students, so reviewing them could aid in improving their memorization of certain concepts. You will undoubtedly encounter questions that relate to issues from earlier exercises or issues in this textbook. An essential formula or resource for exam preparation is the NCERT. While there are many study materials available for students to practice with, selecting the Best Books for JEE Main 2024 is the key to efficient preparation.

Prefer quality over quantity (in terms of books and preparation material)

It's not necessary to devote all of your time and effort to JEE Main 2024 Preparation Tips. Understanding the subject should be used to gauge a student's level of preparation rather than how many hours they spend on it. There is a difference between studying for the JEE Main and other exams. Many applicants become easily discouraged when they realize how much work they have ahead of them. However, it is more crucial to focus on particular subjects and commit important information to memory than it is to study for a set amount of hours every day.

It is certainly possible to learn every single topic, but it would be far too stressful if you tried to keep up this pace for long enough to succeed at the exam. So, students should understand that during their studies for JEE Main, quality will automatically lead to an increase in quantity over time.

Time management issues

Since time is the most valuable resource we have, students need to manage it well. There are many ways to waste time while preparing for JEE Mains, which can lead to failing the test and losing the opportunity to pursue your ideal career path. Creating a study schedule that breaks down your time into topics and ranking your work according to difficulty are the two essential components of an effective time management plan for JEE Mains.

By practicing with JEE Main Mock Test 2024, and sample papers of JEE Main students can also understand the time that they take for a particular section, and this can be used to improve the speed and accuracy of answering the questions. But mock test scores should not be taken too seriously, instead, more focus should be given to the quality of answers rather than the number of questions answered.

Avoiding in-between self-analysis

If students want to score well on the JEE Main exam, they must be confident in every topic covered in the syllabus. Students can only accomplish this by doing a SWOT analysis of their approach to preparation. This implies that the applicant needs to be aware of the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities, and threats. To put it simply, this entails identifying the subject areas that demand more time and effort from students and those where they stand to gain higher scores.

It is important to conduct self-assessment, and doing so should be encouraged during the preparation phase. Some students may be too timid or nervous to ask questions. This is a serious risk to the planning. Gaining a solid understanding of every subject on the syllabus enables students to address a wide range of paper questions.

Inconsistency in revision

A lot of students make the mistake of not revising properly. Revising is important to remember all the topics covered in the JEE Main syllabus 2024. Keeping the revision until the last moment is not advisable, instead, candidates should focus on revision daily. Consistency is key to understanding the concepts and retaining the knowledge. Creating revision notes during the studying process also aids in remembering the concepts during the final stage.

Another common mistake that students make during JEE Mains preparations is not keeping up with the exam syllabus. The JEE Main entrance exam syllabus is periodically reviewed and updated by the authorities. It is important to stay informed of the latest changes through the official JEE website or reliable sources to ensure that you are preparing according to the most current syllabus. This year, the JEE Main 2024 Physics Syllabus PDF has removed many chapters/topics, which candidates must be aware of. Similarly, JEE Main 2024 Chemistry Syllabus PDF and JEE Main 2024 Maths Syllabus PDF have also changed as per the latest NTA JEE curriculum. Candidates can check the list of JEE Main deleted syllabus 2024 to know about the topics that has been omitted.

Candidates are advised to practice with mock tests, JEE Main Previous Year Question Papers, and sample papers consistently. The questions that will be asked in the paper might be in different forms and in a non-traditional manner, having in-depth knowledge of all the topics will help the students to tackle all kinds of questions that might be asked in the paper. A combination of revision notes and regular practice tests will help the students strengthen their knowledge foundation and in turn, be more confident and perform better.

There are a million ways to prepare for JEE Mains, but the right preparation method varies from one student to another. Similarly, there are many mistakes that an aspirant can make during their preparation for JEE Main. The common 5 mistakes that students make while preparing for JEE Mains are highlighted above. The other mistakes are not taking enough breaks to focus on physical and mental health, being over or underconfident, and neglecting certain topics or subjects. Hence we can conclude that rectification of mistakes is crucial on the road of preparation.
