Eligibility Criteria of B.Sc Nursing and Post Basic B.Sc Nursing

The eligibility criteria required to get admission in B.Sc Nursing is different from the eligibility criteria of Post Basic B.Sc Nursing. As the courses are different from each other, their selection process differs too. The eligibility criteria of B.Sc Nursing and the eligibility criteria of Post Basic B.Sc Nursing are given below.

B.Sc Nursing Eligibility Criteria

  • The interested candidate must have completed his/ her higher secondary education (class 12th) from a school that comes under a recognised board.
  • It is mandatory for the candidate to have cleared the board exams of all the subjects in he/ she has in class 12th.
  • The candidate must have opted for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as the compulsory subjects in class 12th.
  • The admission of candidates in various medical colleges for the course of B.Sc Nursing is mostly done on the basis of competitive entrance exams that are held all across the nation.
  • The exams considered for conducting B.Sc Nursing admissions in India are NEET UG, AIIMS B.Sc Nursing Admission Test, Banaras Hindu University (B.Sc Nursing Admission Test), etc. Many universities conduct their own entrance exams for admitting students to this course.

Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must have completed his/ her class 12th (10 + 2) education from a school of a recognised board.
  • The candidates who have completed 10 + 1 are also eligible to apply for the course.
  • The applicant must belong to the science stream with Biology, Physics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
  • The candidates must have registered themselves in the Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (R.N.R.M.) with the State Nurses Registration Council.
  • The applicants must also have obtained a certificate or a three-year diploma in GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery).
  • The candidates must also have proof of training given to them by the Indian Nursing Council or its equivalent in these domains- O.T. Techniques, Leprosy Nursing, Ophthalmic Nursing, TB Nursing, Neurological and Neurosurgical Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Cancer Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Orthopedic Nursing
  • The male candidates who have not done midwifery in General Nursing and Midwifery should have a certificate in any of the nursing courses of about 6-9 months duration. It must be prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) in lieu of midwifery.
  • The admissions for Post Basic B.Sc Nursing courses are usually done on the basis of entrance exams conducted at the institute or university level. Some institutions also admit students directly on the basis of merit.
