What were the passing marks out of 80 and 100 in CBSE Board Exam Class 10 2023?
The passing marks for class 10th are 33%. In class 10th, students are required to score 33% marks combined in both theory and practical exams. Talking about the theory exams alone, which are mostly conducted for 80 marks, students need to secure at least 26.4 marks. Students are required to secure more than an ‘E’ in all the internal assessments to be declared as a “Pass”. The Central Board of Secondary Education does not provide any individual distinction or division to any student. Students are also not provided any rank based on the numbers that they have achieved in the exams. CBSE abolished the ranking system long ago to reduce the competition among the students.
Students who fail to achieve the minimum passing marks are placed in the compartmental category. The compartment exams are conducted in July or August every year to help the candidates pass the exams accordingly. To reduce the number of such students, CBSE has decided to conduct annual exams twice in 1 year from the academic year 2025-26. This way, students will be able to sit for the exams twice and retain the score that is better between the two. The changes will be reflected in the curriculum from the next academic year and will be a huge boon to the students.

Does CBSE Give Grace Marks in Class 10 Exams?
If the students fall short of getting minimum passing marks from 2 to 3, then the teachers are generous enough to provide them with grace marks. However, such a scenario is not guaranteed. It has been observed over the years that teachers tend to give 2 to 3 marks to the students who are failing to achieve the minimum marks by a small margin. Grace marks are dependent upon the type of teacher that is checking your answer sheet and it is not guaranteed by CBSE. Students are required to score 33% marks in each theory paper to be considered for the passing certificate and the aggregate total of the students must also touch 33%. The grades that the students have achieved in the internal assessment are also reflected in their marksheets.

What is the Best of 5 Rule in CBSE Class 10 Exams?
If any student has chosen more than 5 subjects in class 10, then the best 5 rule comes into play. Students can choose four subjects in which they have secured good marks and calculate their percentage accordingly. It is mandatory to add the score of English to the equation even if you have secured fewer marks in it. Usually, in class 10th only five subjects are chosen by most students however one additional subject can be chosen from the list of elective subjects available by the Central Board of Secondary Education. However, CBSE has released a notification stating that no percentage, rank, or distinction will be awarded to the students based on this rule.
In the future, if the students are required to calculate their percentage then it will be done by the rules implemented through their employer or higher Institute where they want to study or work. The decision to determine the best five subjects will be in the hands of the higher Institute or the employer of the student. CBSE does not mention any percentage or rank in the marksheet published by them after the release of the result. The best of 5 rule will not be implemented in the upcoming academic year by CBSE.
