Due to the COVID-19 crisis in India, the preparation strategy of NEET aspirants has gone for a toss completely. The ongoing crisis has totally changed the education scenario of the country. Over 16.84 lakh students will appear for the NEET 2020 exam this year. Most of the students preparing for the exam opt for coaching classes as well as self-study.  For a 600+ score in NEET, students start preparing for the exam a year ago, as the long term preparation with the right revision is the key to success.

This year due to the postponement of the NEET exam date twice, the preparation and strategy of the exam are getting affected. The exam was initially scheduled to take place on 3rd May to which it was postponed to 26th July and the exam got postponed again to September 13 due to the increasing number of COVID-19. NTA decided to change the exam date again to ensure the safety of the students and to increase the exam centers for maintaining social distancing.

What Students Have to Say About Changes in NEET Exam Dates?

We spoke to some of the students appearing for the exam and this what they have to about changes in NEET exam dates:

Safety Comes First: With the number of COVOID-19 cases increasing with an alarming rate in the country, there is no doubt that the safety of the students comes first while conducting the exam. Moreover, NEET is a pen and paper exam which implies that the exam has to be conducted in a single day. Therefore, the right thing to do is let the National Testing Agency increase exam centres to ensure proper safety and in such case postponement of the NEET exam date was the right decision to take.

Losing Interest in Preparation: According to some students, changes in the NEET exam dates have made them lose interest in the exam. The changes in the exam date second time made the students lose interest and they lost the track of their preparation. Some of them feel that the right time for the entrance exam is right after board as they are habitual of long hour preparation and the revision is fresh and it's easy for them to focus.

Added Stress and Anxiety: Not only students but their parents are also stressed and anxious about changes in NEET exam dates due to the prevailing situation. Students are of the view that the postponed of the exam twice has started affected them mentally as they are uncertain now and studying the same thing over the past few months is leading to exhaustion and their preparation strategy is getting affected.

Right Decision by NTA & Government: Even after the changes in NEET exam dates twice, some students are demanding that the exam should be postponed again as there is no vaccine available and it is not right to put the lives of 16 lakh students, faculty and invigilators, and staff in danger. These students believe that NTA and the government took the right decision to postpone the exam and it will help students who were unable to prepare for the exam to do so now.

Experts/ Teachers View on Changes in NEET Exam Dates

NEET experts/ teachers are of the view that the government took the right decision to change the NEET exam dates as the safety of the students comes first. With most of the state/ cities still under lockdown and some of the areas under the containment zone, it would have been not possible to conduct the exam. NTA was not equipped with adequate NEET exam centers and safety measures to conduct the exam on July 26, 2020, as the cases were rising. NEET exam experts are advising students to stay calm and not to come under any pressure as the situation will return to normal.
