ITI Hospital Housekeeping Syllabus: The Hospital Housekeeping Technician course is a one-year, full-time program. During this time, students study practical topics related to hospital housekeeping. This course is a part of the CTS program and is available at ITIs nationwide.  The training has two main sections: Domain area and Core area. The Domain area includes Trade Theory and Practical skills, giving students the knowledge they need. The Core area focuses on Employability Skills, and teaching important life skills.

Students learn about the basics of personal hygiene and how to clean different hospital areas, such as patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, laboratories, waiting areas, and public restrooms. They also study various cleaning procedures for these spaces. This includes understanding cleaning equipment, wiping down surfaces, cleaning furniture, polishing floors, vacuuming carpets, collecting dirty laundry, and distributing clean linens and hospital gowns. This training helps students prepare for jobs in healthcare and continue their education. Understand different colour schemes. Selection of colours for various purposes. Materials used for different hospital areas. Acquire knowledge of types and arrangements of soft furnishing and their maintenance. Know flower arrangements and their importance.

Interior Decoration: Create an environment pleasant to patients, staff and visitors. Create and maintain aesthetic colour Scheme Make aesthetic and suitable arrangements of soft furnishing. Make necessary floor arrangements inwards/departments. Ensure proper lighting and ventilation in different hospital areas.

Acquire basic knowledge of Linen and its importance in hospitals. Classification of linen. Characteristics of linen of different types. Nature of fabrics and uses. Linen selection, procurement, storage, and physical facilities are required for linen rooms. Preparation, Mending, Security, safety & control

Hospital Linen Services: Procure linen from stores and Laundry. Ensure proper storage of linen. To supervise washing and sterilization in the Laundry. Maintain linen properly. Issues linen in Wards/Departments. Keep proper accounting of linen.

Role of good material management in effective linen service. Acquire basic knowledge of the different types of equipment in use

Housekeeping equipment Maintenance. Ensure proper custody, operation and maintenance of all hospital housekeeping equipment.

Types of environment. Factors affecting the environment in the hospital. Lay out, configuration work, flow of men, material and equipment in different hospital areas.

Environmental Hygiene: Supervising both internal and external environmental hygiene of hospital premises. Regular surveillance of overhead and underground tank, proper cover, regular chlorination and cleaning.

Acquire a basic understanding of the definition of hospital infection. Hospital infection and its importance. Epidemiology of hospital infection. Basic disease process.

Infection Control: Carry out infection control measures: Disinfection practices. Sterilization practices. Aseptic procedures.

Personal hygiene. Principles of management and their applications in housekeeping.

Managerial Task: Plan, organize, coordinate, control and monitor all housekeeping activity in hand for effective utilization of resources. Maintain various housekeeping Records & Documents.

Basic computer awareness for Hospital Management. Study on Windows & MS Office.

Computer: Basic operation of Computer, Windows and MS Office. Practised on Data Entry in a computer

ITI Hospital Housekeeping Eligibility Criteria
