NTA JEE Main Result 2025: Normalization Process
Since the JEE Main exam is held in two sessions, the level of difficulty varies, and authorities use the process of normalization to address this. The normalized JEE Main 2025 scores released by NTA show the percentage of candidates whose scores are equal to or lower than the highest in that session. The formula for calculating NTA scores is as follows:
(100 x the number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate) divided by the total number of candidates who appeared in that session
Candidates should be aware that the normalized NTA score does not correspond to the percentage of marks obtained in the JEE Main examination.
JEE Main Result 2025: Percentile Calculation Subject Wise
The NTA computes the JEE Main percentile separately for each subject (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, ) as well as in the combined format using the normalization formula shown below.
Percentile | Calculation method |
Total percentile | 100 x (the number of candidates in the session with raw scores equal to or less than the T1 score) divided by the total number of candidates who appeared in the JEE Main session |
Physics percentile | 100 x (the number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than a P1 in Physics) divided by the total number of candidates who appeared in the session |

JEE Main 2025 Rank List
The National Testing Agency (NTA) announces the JEE Main rank list as well as the NTA JEE Main result on its official website. The top JEE scores from the two sessions will be used by NTA to compile the JEE Main all-India rank list for 2025. By logging in using their login credentials on the official website, candidates will be able to get their JEE Main Rank List 2025 by name. After the official publication of the JEE Main merit list 2025 , candidates will be able to access it via jeemain.nta.nic.in. The JEE Main rank card will include information such as the candidate's name, roll number, and overall rank.
How JEE Main rank is determined?
The NTA calculates the JEE Main ranks of all the candidates participating in the examination. The rank of each candidate is calculated by the following formula -
The score is transformed into a percentile, which means the candidate's raw marks are converted into a percentile.
This is accomplished by computing the session's highest scores. The highest marks are given a score of 100. The remainder of the candidates' grades are adjusted correspondingly.
The percentile score is calculated to seven decimal places, allowing each contender to have a unique ranking. This is done to ensure that there are no ties among the candidates.
Difference between JEE Main percentage and percentile score 2025
Many candidates are puzzled by the JEE Main percentage and percentile and mistake them for the same thing, even though they are completely different aspects. The JEE Main percentage is determined by absolute marking, whereas the percentile is determined by relative marking.
Calculating JEE Main Percentage: (100 x Candidate Marks) / Total Marks
Calculating JEE Main Percentile 2025: (100 x Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks lower than the candidate's) / Total number of candidates in that session.
How to calculate marks or rank for JEE Main Exam 2025?
Candidates can calculate their marks using the JEE Main 2025 answer key released by the NTA. Candidates can calculate their estimated marks by matching their answers with the official NTA JEE Main answer key 2025 session 1. Moreover, candidates should follow the marking scheme given by the NTA to calculate the score and get an idea about their estimated score or marks.
JEE Main Result 2025: Marking Scheme
The JEE Main exam 2025 includes both multiple-choice questions (MCQ) and numerical-type questions. The marking scheme for the multiple-choice questions (MCQ) and numerical-type questions in the JEE Main 2025 exam as per the NTA is as follows.

JEE Main Result 2025: Tie-breaking policy
There is a possibility that in the JEE Main exam 2025, two or more candidates score the same marks. In such cases, NTA will determine the scores following the tie-breaking policy, which goes in descending order.
NTA score in Mathematics, followed by
NTA score in Physics, followed by
NTA score in Chemistry, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of several attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of several attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of some attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of many attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Test followed by
Older in Age followed by Application Number in ascending order
JEE Main Result 2025: Reservation
The government has recommended that institutes follow a certain reservation when selecting candidates based on the NTA JEE Main result 2025. ST | 7.5% |
General - Economically Weaker Sections (GEN-EWS) | 10% |
PwD | 5% |
Non-Creamy Layer of Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL) | 27% |
JEE Main Result 2025: Cutoff Marks
The JEE Main cutoff list is based on the percentile declared by NTA once the scores have been prepared. Because the highest score is 100, the remaining candidates will be sorted correspondingly. A list will be created after producing a list in descending order of percentile. The highest percentile will be ranked first, while the lowest percentile will be ranked last. It is called the JEE Main session 1 rank list 2025.
It is then cut down to a restricted group of candidates based on the number of seats available in the course. This is called the JEE Main cutoff 2025 marks. Different categories (such as General, OBC, SC, ST) have different percentile cutoffs due to the varying number of candidates and their performance in each category.
Factors Determining JEE Main 2025 Cutoff
The JEE Main cutoff 2025 marks are affected by the following factors-
Availability of seat
Number of candidates participating
Past trends
Candidate’s overall performance
