Eligibility Criteria for Government Dental Colleges in India 

To get entry into any BDS government dental college in India, applicants must meet the minimal prerequisites, which are BDS. The list of government medical colleges in India includes a total of 420 dental colleges. The following are the requirements for eligibility for the same:

  • Academic Requirements: Applicants must pass class 12 or equivalent with a required minimum of 50% overall.

  • Minimum Age Criteria for BDS Admission: The minimum age required to enroll in a BDS course is seventeen years old.

  • Mandatory Subject: In the 10+2 standard, the three primary topics are physics, biology, and chemistry.

Admission Procedure for Government Dental Colleges in India

To secure admission in any of the Government Dental Colleges in India, the students must appear in NEET UG. Candidates interested in enrollment in BDS or MDS courses, check out the step-by-step guidelines mentioned below. 

  • Apply for NEET UG or NEET MDS: Candidates who are interested in enrollment in BDS courses must appear for NEET UG and those interested in MDS, must appear for NEET MDS. 

  • Qualify the Entrance Examination: After appearing for these entrance exams, the students must score equal of above the qualifying cutoff marks released by the concerned authorities. 

  • Participate in the Counselling Process: Those who have qualified NEET-UG or NEET MDS can partake in the counselling process conducted online. Initially, students must register for counselling and then a merit list will be released in online mode, Students whose names appear in the merit list will be eligible to participate in further rounds of counselling. 

  • Release of Seat Allotment List: Selected students will be allowed to fill their preference of course and colleges in the Choice-filling process. Course and colleges will be allotted in the seat allotment list, as per the choices filled, total marks obtained and other factors such as reservation policy. This seat allotment list will be released in 4 to 5 rounds, namely; Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 (Mop-Up Round), Stray Vacancy Round and Extra Stray Vacancy Round. Students who do not get a college in round 1 and expect their names in the coming rounds. 

  • Reporting to the Allotted Colleges: After the names of the allotted colleges are disclosed in the seat allotment list, students must report to the allotted colleges within the given time period. Physical document verification round is conducted at each dental college, hence, students must carry all the required documents and their photo copies. 

  • Submit College Fee: Students are required to submit the college fee after all other admission comes to an end. After paying the fee, admission in Government Dental Colleges in Indis is confirmed, hence keep an extra copy of the fee receipt
