Is Admission Possible in NIT with Lowest Cutoff in JEE Main 2025?
As mentioned already, a rank greater than 70,000 can be considered a low JEE Main Rank, and students are often confused thinking which NIT has lowest cutoff or what are the admission chances in NITs. If you are aspiring for top NITs, your rank should be less than 10,000. However, newer NITs accept candidates with a rank greater than 70,000 in JEE Main. It also depends on the reservation policy of the respective institute.
There are many colleges for 10,000 to 25,000 ranks and 50,000 to 75,000 range in JEE Main in which candidates can take admission if they have scored low rank in JEE Mains.
Is it a Better Option to Choose Newer NITs for BTech Admission?
The first thing that the NIT aspirants must note is that choosing a newer NIT for B.Tech admission is not a wrong choice. However, these NITs are still emerging, and most of the newer NITs do not have permanent campuses also. Some of the NITs are functioning through the temporary campuses. The central government is trying its best to set up permanent campuses for newer NITs as early as possible.
The newly formed NITs in India are as follows -
NIT Andhra Pradesh
NIT Goa
NIT Manipur
NIT Meghalaya
NIT Mizoram
NIT Nagaland
NIT Puducherry
NIT Sikkim
NIT Uttarakhand
The B.Tech degree offered by NITs (whether it's old or new NIT) holds value in the job market. NIT graduates are offered lucrative job offers by top companies. However, before choosing from the list of NITs in India, it is advisable to check which NIT has lowest cutoff, as well as the campus, and infrastructure facilities available to students.
It is also advisable to get in touch with the old students or senior students of newer NITs before making an admission choice. This will give you an insight into which NIT to choose.

Admission to Top Private Engineering Colleges with Low Ranks in JEE Main 2025
There are many options other than NITs if you score a low rank in JEE Main 2025. You can get admission to top engineering colleges or deemed universities despite the low rank in JEE Main exam. The below examples will help you to understand the different ways through which you can apply for admission to top private engineering colleges or deemed universities with low JEE Main rank.
Example 1: After clearing the JEE Main and if your rank is low, you can appear for engineering exams conducted at the state level. Since you had prepared for JEE Main, preparing for the state-level engineering entrance exam can’t be a tough task. If you are from West Bengal, you will have to appear for the WBJEE.
What if I do not Score Well in State-Level Engineering Entrance Exam?
If you do not score well in the state-level engineering entrance exam and still you are still aspiring to get admission to top engineering colleges, it is advisable to not wait for a long time and start applying for different top engineering colleges under the management quota. Note that the competition for management quota in top private engineering colleges is also high, and one must apply for admission as soon as the results of the state-level entrance exam are out.
You can also apply for B.Tech admission in deemed universities with or without rank in the entrance exam. The fee structure for B.Tech admission through the management quota shall be higher than the state quota seat.
Example 2: If you scored a low rank in JEE Main exam, it is advisable to apply for the entrance exam conducted by various deemed universities. Some of the top deemed universities' BTech entrance exams are VITEEE 2025 exam, KIITEEE, VSAT 2025, KLEEE 2025 exam, SRMJEEE 2025 etc. After clearing any of these entrance exams, you will be called for the counselling process, and seat & branch allocation is done based on the score or rank secured in the entrance exam. One of the advantages of appearing for these entrance exams is that deemed universities offer a fee waiver or scholarship to the top 500-1000 rank holders.
