The eligibility criteria for UG and PG courses offered by Institute of Distance Education - Madras University is as follows -
Eligibility Criteria for the UG Courses
The eligibility criteria for the UG courses are as follows:
- The Pre-University exam conducted by Madras University or any other university which can be taken as its equivalent
- A minimum two years clear gap between the date of appearing in the exam in which the candidate has passed class 10th and class 12th or its equivalent
- The Higher Secondary exam (Academic or Vocational) conducted by the Tamil Nadu Government or other States or Union Territories or an exam considered as its equivalent
- Indian School Certificate Examination (12 years) conducted by the Council for Indian School Certificate Exam held in 1977 or after that stating that the candidate has attained the pass standard in the exam and it is not less than 5 subjects, English has to be the one subject
- The Senior School Certificate Examination (12th standard conducted by CBSE in 1979 or after that stating that the candidate has attained the pass standard in the exam and it is not less than 5 subjects, English has to be the one subject
- Those who have passed the plus two exams of National Open School, New Delhi
- Intermediate exam (2 years) of Andhra Pradesh, pre-university exam (2 years) of Karnataka and pre-degree exam (2 years) of Kerala under 10+2
- The pre-technical exam which is conducted after 11 years of studying by the State Board of Technical Education and Training (Chennai)
- Those who have passed the Plus Two examinations of the National Open School, New Delhi
- Passed the 3-year diploma exam conducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Chennai after completing class 10th
- Candidates need to pass the two-year foundation course exam (equivalent to 12th of Madurai Kamaraj and Annamalai Universities after passing class 10th and pre-foundation course (equal to class 10th) conducted by Madurai Kamaraj and Annamalai Universities
- Successfully completing 12 or 13 years of education in any state in India or abroad under 10+2, 11+1 or 11+2, subject to approval by the University
- Candidates who have completed 12 or 13 years of education in any State in India or Abroad under 11+1 or 10+2 or 11+2 pattern, subject to approval by the authorities of this University.
- Those who have passed the Aalima course by Jamiat-ul-Moninath, Hyderabad, Moghalpura, Telangana or its equivalent are eligible to join the BA Urdu degree course
- Candidates who passed GCE (Principal level/Advanced) with minimum of 3 subjects with A level and with English in the O level/subsidiary level

Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras Application Process
- Candidates can get the application form from the institute/spot admission centers/participatory institutes/student centers or twinning program centres for Rs.100 and then they have to send a demand draft of Rs.150 to the Institute's Director or through the official website by paying Rs.200 online.
- Candidates will have to detach the application form, address slip and also the computer coding sheet from the prospectus
- The form needs to be accompanied by all original certificates and registration fee of Rs.100 for UG courses, Rs. 150 for PG, and Rs.400 for Executive MBA and Rs.1000 for professional courses
- Once the form has been filled, students have to send the form along with their original certificates listed below
- Statement of Marks of the qualifying exam
- Transfer certificate from the institute's head where the student last studied
- Authenticated translation in English attested by a Gazetted officer if the certificates are not in English or Tamil
- Provisional pass certificate/diploma certificate
- One photograph each on address slip, application form and reverse side of the coding sheet
- Equivalence certificate issued by AIU for students who have studied abroad.
