NEET Topper 2023 Parth Khandelwal Interview, AIR 10
CollegeDekho:Congratulations Parth on your phenomenal success! How are you feeling?
Parth: I felt really great! My dream was to at least make it to the top 100 students, but achieving AIR 10 gave me immense happiness. All my hard work and sacrifices of the past two years were worth it.
CollegeDekho: Tell us something about yourself?
Parth: I belong from a business family in Jaipur, Rajasthan. My father handles our dry fruit business. My mother is a full-time homemaker while my sister is pursuing MBBS at SMS college.
CollegeDekho: What motivated you to choose a career in medicine?
Parth: My sister was the biggest inspiration in choosing medicine as a career. She’s an MBBS graduate. Moreover, when I was studying in class 9, I used to love Biology as a subject that further nudged me towards choosing medicine. Additionally, becoming a Doctor is a noble profession that further helped me navigate this path.
CollegeDekho: What used to be your study routine? Did you put in any extra hours efforts to prepare?
Parth: I used to visit all classes at Allen and study rigorously for around 12 hours a day. I never hesitated to ask doubts to experts, friends, and teachers. This helped me achieve the final AIR 10 result.
CollegeDekho: Did you have any subject-wise strategy? Would you like to share some tips on the same?
Parth: For Biology, I recommend everyone to study from NCERT books only. NTA asks most questions from NCERT syllabus. Students should also refer to previous years’ high-weightage questions. For Inorganic Chemistry as well, aspirants must follow the NCERT book and syllabus. When it comes to Physics, Organic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry, students should focus on practicing from reference books. They can refer to the NCERT books once a thorough understanding of concepts is learned.
CollegeDekho: What were the two most dreaded situations that you took extra care to overcome?
Parth: The two most common errors that students make are silly mistakes and OMR-sheet filling. So, to ensure that I didn’t make these mistakes, I used to attempt mock tests and try to complete my paper in 2 hours. This gave me around 1 hour and 20 minutes to re-check my answers and fill OMR correctly.
CollegeDekho: Since you’ve cleared NEET in one go. What tips would you like to share with future NEET aspirants for qualifying NEET in the same way?
Parth: I would highly suggest that students should appear for NEET exam while they’re giving their 12th board exams. This will give them an added advantage as their concepts are fresh in the mind. Candidates must also listen to their teachers instructions and don’t refer to books that are not a part of the syllabus.
CollegeDekho: With so many distractions like social media, how can a student give focused attention to a competitive exam like NEET?
Parth: I would suggest students to keep only messaging applications on their phones to stay in touch with friends and professors. Delete other entertainment applications that will distract you from your journey.
CollegeDekho:What is the ideal time to start preparing for NEET according to you?
Parth: I suggest students to study for NEET exams in full-fledged mode from class 11. If possible, candidates can try studying a little bit extra and plan better from 9th standard onwards only. However, no need to take any stress about the NEET exams before class 11.
CollegeDekho: Are there any specific topics in each section (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) of the exam that need more attention?
Parth: For Chemistry, candidates should dedicate the most time to inorganic chemistry, followed by organic and physical chemistry. Students must focus on topics that have high theoretical weightage like concepts from semiconductors. Practicing numericals additionally helps in scoring better.
CollegeDekho: In NEET 2023 exam, which section was the easiest and which one was the toughest? Any tips to deal with a challenging section at the time of the exam?
Parth: Biology and Physics were easy to attempt in NEET 2023 exam. I found the Chemistry paper to be the most challenging section. So, I attempted the Biology section first followed by Physics section. In this way, when I reached the Chemistry section, I was already very much confident and was able to attempt all the questions with a positive attitude. Wherever I felt stuck, I drank water and keep myself relaxed and focused.
CollegeDekho: Now that you've qualified with the top score, which are the colleges that you plan to target & why?
Parth: I am planning to apply for AIIMS, Delhi, as it is the most prestigious institute. So, I wish to pursue my bachelor’s study from there.
CollegeDekho: Which specialization in medicine would you like to pursue going forward after completing your MBBS graduation?
Parth: I am keen on pursuing Dermatology studies after I complete my MBBS studies.
CollegeDekho: What books would you recommend to a NEET aspirant for preparation?
Parth: I would recommend students to study only from NCERT books only. Once they’re done learning concepts from NCERT, they should refer to MTG PYQ books and solve previous years’ questions.
CollegeDekho: To whom would you like to attribute your NEET success to? Who was your constant guide during the preparation journey?
Parth: I would like to dedicate my success to my mother. Apart from her, my coaching faculty, family members, school teachers, and friends played an essential role in my successful journey. If I have reached at this position today, all these individuals have supported to make it happen.
CollegeDekho: Do you recommend coaching for NEET preparation? How does a coaching centre help?
Parth: I believe coaching centers are a must for NEET. They provide detailed notes and the faculty supports students tremendously. They resolve all your doubts and conduct timely mock tests that help in brushing up on concepts effectively. So, in my opinion, joining coaching centres is really essential to clear NEET.
