Standing as the 13th Central University in Nagaland, Nagaland University Kohima is a public university. The university was established in the year 1989, having jurisdiction over the entire state of Nagaland. The main headquarters of this university is situated in Lumami and it has 3 other campuses: Medziphema campus, Kohima campus, and Dimapur campus. A total of 69 colleges from all over the state of Nagaland are currently affiliated with Nagaland University Kohima.
The Nagaland University Kohima campus is spread across an area of 240 acres and is situated at Meriema, which is around 10 kilometers from the city center.
There are 11 departments and 2 centers at the university offering PG and Ph.D. programmes in different disciplines such as Arts, Commerce, Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering & Technology, and Management streams. Some of the popular Nagaland University courses include MEd, MSc, MCom, MBA, MA, MPhil, PhD, and PGD.
However, like every other university, this university also has some gaps to be filled. Allegedly, the university does not provide good placements for students. The placements offered are below average which makes students look for jobs on their own after graduation.

Our Take
As evident, Nagaland University Kohima has failed to improve its performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings for the third year in a row, remaining in the 151-200 band for universities. This is a decline from the top 100 ranking that NU achieved in 2018. NU's decline in the NIRF rankings is a matter of concern, as it is the only central university in Nagaland. It is important for the university to take steps to improve its performance and regain its position among the top universities in India.

The courses at Nagaland University Kohima are divided as per subject-wise credit. Each course is divided into two components: a core course which is common for all and an elective course which depends on specialisation opted by candidates. There are different elective areas of specialization as per the syllabus of the respective group. There are two main exams conducted: mid-term and end-term exams. The mid-term exam is conducted for 30 marks out of which the passing mark is 12. The end-term exam is conducted for 70 marks out of which the passing mark is 28. The marks are allotted overall in the form of grade points on 10 10-point scale.

Admission Process
Nagaland University Kohima admission to the MBA Programme is done on the basis of MAT conducted by AIMA, CMAT (AICTE), XAT, CAT, and ATMA. In addition to that, the department also conducts NU-MAT which is of equivalent standard to National level tests for admission to the MBA Programme. For the rest of the courses, admission is done on the basis of merit in the qualifying exam.
Our Take
Nagaland University Kohima seems to have a well-structured credit-based system for its courses. The number of courses offered is also fine.The division of each course into core and elective components allows students to focus on their chosen areas of specialisation. The two main exams conducted, mid-term and end-term, provide students with regular feedback on their performance. The grade point system used to assess students is also fair and transparent. According to our evaluation, the number of seats available for each course is also reasonable.
Nagaland University Kohima Infrastructure
Classroom: The classrooms at Nagaland University Kohima are well-equipped with modern amenities, including projectors, whiteboards, and comfortable seating. The classrooms are also spacious and well-lit, creating a conducive environment for learning.
Auditorium/ Seminar Halls: The university has a spacious auditorium with a seating capacity of over 800. The auditorium is used for various events, such as seminars, conferences, and cultural programs. The university also has several seminar halls of varying capacities, which are used for smaller gatherings.
Labs: Nagaland University Kohima has well-equipped laboratories for all its science and engineering departments. Library: The university has a central library that houses the most recent textbooks and journals in the fields of Humanities, Education, Social Sciences, Geology, and Management. Students can study in the Library's spacious study space. Furthermore, numerous publishers' publications and newspapers are widely available. In addition, the University has an e-library that allows online access to a large number of books as well as National and International Journals.
Internet: The university campus and hostels are connected to the internet with a 100 Mbps broadband connection by NKN (National Knowledge Network), which is accessible to all students and faculty members.
Hostel: Nagaland University Kohima provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls. There are 2 boys, and 3 girls hostels accommodating them on a twin-sharing basis. The hostels are clean and well-maintained, and offer students a comfortable place to stay.
Cafe/ Hang-out: The university campus has a cafeteria that serves a variety of food and drinks at affordable prices. There are also several other cafes and restaurants located near the campus.

As per our evaluation, Nagaland University Kohima has good infrastructure facilities to support its academic and research programs. The university is constantly working to improve its infrastructure to provide its students with the best possible learning experience.

Our Take
We have to say that we are not very impressed with Nagaland University Kohima placement. There is 0 placement for UG 5 year courses which is very disappointing. The packages offered are also very low, especially for a central university. The placement percentage of 6.11% is very low, and the median salary of placed graduates is also relatively low. Whatever the reasons, it is clear that the university needs to improve its placement record. This could be done by increasing the visibility of the university to employers outside of the region, strengthening the university's placement assistance services, and aligning the curriculum of its courses more closely with the needs of the job market.
