NEET 2024 Reservation Policy
The NTA has defined regulations offering reservation quotas to candidates under AIQ and State Quota seats. NEET UG 2024 Reservation Policy is introduced for candidates from General Category, SC/ST, OBC, PwD, EWS to apply for medical and dental course admission in an organized selection process.
NEET UG 2024 reservation policy for state medical and dental colleges is well defined in the Information Bulletin of NEET UG 2024. All important details pertaining to the NEET 2024 reservation policy are published by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NEET UG 2024 reservation policy is divided into two categories. All India Quota and State Quota. The reservation criteria for NEET 2024 are governed by the guidelines of the Government of India (GOI), and include reserved seats for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disability (PwD), as well as Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) for medical and dental course admission process.
The NEET UG 2024 Exam has been conducted on May 5, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 5:20 PM. The results of NEET 2024 were announced on June 4, 2024. A total of 15% AIQ seats and 85% State Quota seats are reserved for the respective candidates who are interested in seeking admission to MBBS/BDS courses through NEET UG 2024. The reservation criteria for 85% seats in each state under State Quota is determined by the respective state authorities. NEET 2024 Reservation Policy for All India Quota
NEET UG witnesses a huge number of applicants every year, with over 25 lakh applicants to have registered for the NEET UG 2024 exam this year. Therefore, to simplify the process of Medical course admission by allowing an organized selection process and encouraging a large number of candidate participation in NEET ever year, the NTA introduced the NEET UG 2024 Reservation Policy defining the number of seats reserved in each college for candidates belonging from different categories.
The NEET UG 2024 reservation policy highlights the number of seats allotted to candidates in a category-wise system, to ensure a large number of organized NEET participation. The reserved percentage of seats allotted to AIQ, State Quota, OBC, and EWS categories are well-defined and clearly segregated. According to the NTA, out of the total number of seats in all MBBS/BDS colleges in each state, 15% seats will be reserved for All India Quota (AIQ) seats

The guidelines for NEET UG reservation policy for state quota seats are set by the state counselling authorities based on the prevailing reservation policies. It is crucial to note that all the states have their own reservation policies and therefore, they vary.
Moreover, the admission process of both government and dental colleges of each state is governed by the concerned state counselling authorities. Thus, some of the mentioned policies may or may not be at par with the NEET 2024 reservation policy.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare introduced the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Quota in NEET-UG admissions in 2019. This initiative, managed by the National Testing Agency (NTA), reserves 10% of the total seats in government medical colleges for candidates with financial constraints. The specific criteria for identifying candidates eligible for the EWS category in NEET 2024 reservation are outlined below. Failure to comply with any of the following conditions renders a candidate ineligible to avail this reservation policy:
- AnnualFamilyIncome: The candidate's family income should not exceed INR 8 lakhs per annum.
- LandOwnership: a. Owning 5 acres of agricultural land and above. b. Owning a residential flat of 1000 sq ft. and above. c. Owning a residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities. d. Owning a residential plot of 200 sq yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.
Candidates who do not meet the stipulated criteria under any of these points will not be eligible to avail themselves of the EWS reservation policy during NEET-UG admissions in 2024.

NEET Reservation Policy 2024 for Different Categories
The primary objective of the NEET 2024 Reservation Policy is to provide a sincere opportunity to all the candidates wishing to appear for NEET 2024, who would otherwise find it difficult to compete for admissions to various medical colleges in the country due to different reasons. Hence, apart from the above-mentioned categories, the NTA introduced NEET UG 2024 Reservation Policy for other categories as well with distinguished admission criteria and application fees. NEET 2024 PwD Reservation Policy
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has formulated the NEET UG reservation policy, which extends to candidates eligible for the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category. The PwD category is allocated a 5% reservation in medical college seats, subject to certain eligibility criteria and compliance with NTA regulations. The guidelines specified for the PwD reservation quota are outlined below:
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates must have a minimum degree of disability of 40% or more to qualify for the PwD reservation quota.Documentation Requirements:
Candidates must possess a "Certificate of Disability" issued in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules 2017.Assessment of Disability Degree:
The degree of "specified disability" should be assessed in line with the Guidelines to assess the extent of specified disability outlined in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (49 of 2016).Designated Centers for Certificate Issuance:
The "Certificate of Disability" must be obtained from one of the 12 designated centers, following the format specified by NTA for NEET PwD Reservation, to avail the 5% PwD reservation.Verification Process:
Candidates wishing to benefit from the PwD reservation quota must undergo examination at any Government Hospital, Government Medical College, or District Hospital. The Disability Certificate issued based on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules 2017 will serve as a verification measure for eligibility under the PwD category.Note on Disability Certificate and Admission:
The Disability Certificate does not grant automatic admission but serves as a verification tool for determining eligibility under the PwD quota. Candidates must adhere to the regulations and guidelines defined by NTA.Presentation of Disability Certificate:
Candidates selected under the PwD category during NEET-UG admission processes must present a Disability Certificate issued by the Disability Assessment Board. This certificate reflects the assessment criteria specified in the Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997 (amended on 14th May 2019).
Candidates are advised to thoroughly understand and comply with the regulations outlined by the National Testing Agency to ensure a smooth admission process under the PwD category for NEET-UG.

NEET 2024 Reservation for Application Fee
The National Testing Agency has, as per the Centre’s rules and regulations, provided reservation and relaxation for the payment of the application fee. As per the NEET UG reservation policy for the payment of the application fee, candidates belonging to the different reservation categories will be asked to pay a subsidized application fee. Here is the subsidized application fee, as per NTA.

All candidates, irrespective of the NEET UG reservation category will be required to pay an application fee for NEET-UG 2024, while they are filling out the application process. The payment of the application fee will confirm the submission of the application form.
Candidates must note that in case they wish to avail of the reservation quota that has been provided by NTA, then they must provide the required documents in the format that has been defined by the Agency. Candidates are also advised that present documents and certificates that have been issued by Competent Authorities, recognized by the National Testing Agency, for admission to medical courses like MBBS and BDS and other medical courses, offered in India.
Candidates will be allowed to avail of the reservation facility only if they are found to be eligible as per the criteria mentioned by NTA. The NEET conducting body has provided the necessary formats for different certificates and applications, which are to be submitted by the interested candidates. They must refer to the format if they wish to avail of any form of subsidy or reservation offered by NTA for admissions.
