NID DAT Interview Round - What to Expect, How to Prepare

NID DAT Interview Round: Only after a student has cleared the NID DAT Prelims, will they be allowed to sit for the NID DAT Mains exam. Under the DAT Prelims, the students are tested on their theoretical knowledge and their aptitude and sketching skills regarding designing are tested. The NID DAT Exam Pattern clearly lays down that under the NID Mains section, students will be required to undergo a studio test and clear the interview round. This interview round will assess a student’s communication skills, their confidence while answering questions and much more. • Interviewees are usually asked to showcase their portfolios in front of the interview panel and then questions with regards to their backgrounds, achievements, and the reasons for which they wish to study at the National Institute of Design are asked.
• The interview lasts for 45 minutes wherein the interviewees are asked questions as a part of a rapid-fire round.
• The frequency of questions asked in the DAT Mains Interview Round is quite high.
• All students who sit for the studio test are asked to appear for the interview round as well.
• No dress code is prescribed for the DAT Mains Interview Round.

Even though the National Institute of Design hasn’t laid down any dress code for the interview round, the interviewees are still recommended to dress comfortably and sensibly for the interview round to retain their calm during the interview. • Having a hesitant body language will affect your chances of getting selected for NIDs, thus having a confident stance throughout the interview is of utmost importance.
• Before entering the interview room, ask for the interviewers' permission.
• Follow a formal dress code for your interview round and avoid wearing anything that is uncomfortable or has a lot of pockets to avoid security issues and frisking.

• Be descriptive and eloquent: Try to be confident while answering questions put forth by the panelists and be specific about your answers. Try not to beat the interviewers around the bush and have your pointers ready for discussion.
• Researching the fashion industry: Being aware of the recent developments in the fashion industry is an important aspect of sitting for an NID DAT Interview. Unfamiliarity with the basic concepts of the industry may lead to disinterest on the part of the interviewer.
• Avoid one-word answers (Yes or No): Answering questions with a mere Yes or No is not considered appropriate. Repetitively taking one-word answers will make you look underconfident and uneasy. Try to elaborate on all of your answers and reason out your yes and no answers.
