Tucked away in the valleys of Kasuali; surrounded by sky-high pines and oaks is the campus of Shoolini University. You take a glance outside a window and your gaze is met with eye-pleasing shades of green; perfect colour therapy for a student.  Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences is located in the scenic Kasauli Hills, Solan Himachal Pradesh. The university offers a diverse array of courses and paves the path for knowledge seekers of UG, PG and doctoral programmes. Shoolini University since its inception 2009, has been providing numerous opportunities in the field of research. The prestigious university has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for its academic excellence and world-class teaching environment. 

Shoolini University offers 21 degrees and 220 courses in Science and Technology, Agriculture, Arts and Science, Management, Design, Media and Communication, Law and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The university is a lively place with 3517 students out of which 51% of the students are from across the country. The campus buzzes with diversity where the gender ratio of make to female is 51:49. The university has 232 experience professors on board. The university gives a high priority for research and innovation. The institution offers research programmes even for undergraduate students and they have an opportunity to participate in research projects that give them ample experience and help to develop research skills. The varsity professes to have world-class infrastructure, well-equipped classrooms, labs with the latest technology, E studios, an excellent library, and various clubs. However, students have some critical feedback about the institution as well. According to the students, the institution's hostel fee is too high. Students are of the opinion of having well-experienced professors. There is a need for more internships and placements.

Shoolini University has been gradually climbing up the NIRF rankings. Shoolini University has been progressing in all the parameters set by NIRF that include teaching, learning, research, and overall output. Being one of India's top 100 best universities, we can understand that the institution is committed to excellence. Naturally, the rankings have become better as it strives to maintain quality. 

Shoolini University Academia & Batch Size

Shoolini University has adopted Course Credit System (CCS) to award degrees. According to CCS, each course is structured with a clearly outlined syllabus, giving specific credit hours allocated for both theory and practical sessions. There is flexibility for students to select electives of their choice through subject–open electives.  Shoolini University implements the UGC mandatory policy of attendance according to which the students must have 75% attendance for both theory and practical classes. The university follows a ten-point grading system awarding the Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) to evaluate the performance of students both in theory and in practicals. 

Shoolini University boasts of having 237 faculty members, who are well-qualified, industry experts. Professors at the university are helpful and supportive, according to the alumni. The university conducts seminars, workshops, and guest lecturers for professors and students of all the courses. The total student population of the university is 3517. The university ensures a well-balanced student-to-faculty ratio.

The university claims that it is committed to provide well-rounded and student-centred education with a strong faculty team and diverse courses but according to the students' report, the university does not have a good number of experienced faculty members.

Hostel

Shoolini University provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls. There are seven hostels.  Hostels at Shoolini University are fully furnished with modern amenities like automated laundry services, indoor gym and cineplex and unisex saloon. Good Host Space (GHS),  an American MNC, maintains these hostels. The institution promises to provide security for girls and medical emergency services around the clock. All the hostels are Wi-Fi enabled. Students can have snacks and refreshments 24/ 7.  Hostels serve multi-cuisine meals. Almost every year, the hostels are full. The university conducts many fun-filled programmes for hostellers. Most of the students are of the opinion that their hostel wife is memorable.

Our Take:

According to the report by Alumni, the institution offers impeccably first-class hostel facilities as it promises. Students say that around 50% of the total strength stays in the hostel. An important thing to be noted is that the hostel provides limited laundry facilities and does not provide local travelling. Students often wonder why the management cannot lift restrictions for limited laundry. The security for the girls is provided around the clock by arranging female security guards and CCTV surveillance at all entry and exit points, according to a former students' report. The university keeps its promise. A big tick on that. 

Library

The library at Shoolini University is known as the Yogananda Knowledge Centre (YKC). YKC is a world-class library consisting of a wide range of book collections, journals and periodicals. Students say that YKC contains around 30,000 books along with 10 lakh e-books. The library is open 24/7.

Laboratories

The institution has advanced laboratories equipped with modern technology. Language labs are available too. The laboratories at the university have innovative technology. Around 100+ labs have been arranged to enhance the learning experience of the students.

Cafeteria

The institution has a very good cafeteria. According to the former students, the canteen at the university is their one of the favourite places is ‘Neermal Canteen’. They say that it offers a variety of food items which is as good as their home food.

Auditorium

Shoolini University has an excellent, spacious auditorium, where seminars, webinars, and other professional activities take place. It is well furnished. The auditorium can accommodate around 250+ people.

Internet Connection

Shoolini University provides a Wi-Fi facility on the entire campus. As per the feedback of the students, the speed of Wi-Fi is good.

Shoolini University Internships and Placements

Internships

The internships at Shoolini University are offered by renowned companies. The university also offers different internships for various departments. The students of biotechnology take part in project-based industrial training for which the institution awards credits. Biotechnology students who are in the 7th Semester are offered internships by various firms. The third-year engineering and computer science students go for internships at some of the top-notch institutes and receive industry training and certificates.

Placements

Shoolini University has an excellent placement cell, which invites various MNCs and reputed companies for the recruitment process. The placement cell trains the final-year students and prepares them for the campus drives. The university professes that the highest package offered is INR 18,00,000 and the lowest package offered is INR. 8,00,000. According t the NIRF data 2023, out of 191 students in B.Tech 80 were placed in the top leading companies during the placement drive 2022. This means the placement percentage for B.Tech is 41.88%. The median salary offered was INR 4, 50,000 LPA. In the Management course, out of 111 students, 109 were selected. The Management department placement percentage is 98.20. The median CTC was INR 5, 57, 000. 

Our Take:

According to the NIRF data, Shoolini University placement record is pretty good and a B.Tech undergraduate can earn around 5 lakhs and post postgraduate in Management courses can receive around 6 lakhs per annum. The placement cell of Shoolini University is very active, supportive and doing a wonderful job, helping them get placed in reputed companies. The university can still improve the percentage of placement, as there is scope. According to the students' report, the CSE and Electronics departments of graduation, the placement percentage is comparatively less and the university can aid the candidates to get placed.

Shoolini University is one of the top private universities and most of the top reputed organizations are in fact interested in recruiting graduates from the institutions.  Companies like Abbott, Alchemist, Biogentek, Macro, Nestle, Patanjali, Accenture, Decathlon, Eicher, L&T Havells, HCL, Cognizant, Genpact, IBM, Cipla and many other companies visit the campus every year and offer job opportunities.

Shoolini University is an institution that promotes diversity and inclusiveness according to the feedback by alumni and stastics. Shoolini University can perhaps improve student strength within the state.

Shoolini University’s administrative body is headed by Chancellor Prof. P.K. Khosla Pro-Chancellor Mr. Vishal Anand and Prof. Atul Khosla Founder and Vice-Chancellor. The institution houses 12 schools and 6 academic faculties under its umbrella.  Deans of the department administer these 12 schools. The university claims to have well-experienced and highly qualified faculty. Most of the professors are PhD holders. Since the governing body of the university has a strong relationship with industry, professors along with the placement cell aid students to be ready for professional growth. According to some of the students, the management recruits inexperienced teaching staff. The university’s most of faculty is its own alumni if the feedback of students is to be believed.

Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences is situated close to Kasauli town in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. The university is located 73 km from Chandigarh and 67 km from Shimla.  Students can reach the university by road or rail. The closest railway station for the university is Solan Railway Station, which is 15km from the varsity. The university is surrounded by pine and deodar trees. Since the institution is established on the foothills of Kasauli, it offers a tranquil and peaceful campus life. Students say that they have a pleasant atmosphere most of the time in the year.

Shoolini University claims to be the Number 1 Private University in India, offering students a high-quality education and making them industry-ready. The students and faculty believe that the university focuses on Research and Innovation. The institution professes to have 1300+ patents filed. Shoolini University has been progressing since its inception and improving itself to achieve better rankings

As per the reviews of the students, not all the faculty members are experienced and the management recruits only professors who settle down for lower packages if you are to believe the feedback of alumni. Some of the students felt that the university is charging high hostel fees. According to the alumni, the university does not have enough classrooms to conduct offline classes and has small playgrounds. University perhaps should live up to the expectations of the students.
