UGC NET Normalization Process 2024 is followed by NTA while calculating the result. It is an established practice that involves comparing the scores of candidates who participate in the same examination but on different dates or in different sessions. Subsequently, percentile scores are employed to standardize the scores of all candidates, ensuring equitable evaluation. The percentile score of a candidate indicates the percentage of the total number of candidates who have scored lower or higher than a candidate in the examination. Authorities must guarantee that admissions are determined by a score that precisely assesses students' performance.

NTA conducted the UGC NET 2024 exam for the June cycle from August 21 to September 4, 2024, in multiple shifts. During each session, candidates received distinct sets of question papers. Despite the NTA's best efforts to maintain uniform difficulty levels in these question papers, some candidates may encounter more challenging questions. What is UGC NET Normalization Process 2024?

The UGC NET normalization process involves the adjustment or manipulation of the raw marks obtained by the candidates due to disparity in the difficulty level of the exam for different shifts. This adjustment in the raw scores is done to provide uniformity while declaring the UGC NET result 2024. Because the UGC NET Exam 2024 was held in two shifts on multiple days, the process of UGC NET Normalization holds an important significance. To generate rationalized results for all candidates who appeared in these multiple shifts on various days is the basic aim of the UGC NET 2024 normalization process.

Overview of UGC NET Normalization 2024

The raw score in the UGC NET Exam is referred to as the marks obtained by the candidate in the particular exam shift for which they appeared. Since each subject will have a different highest raw score and lowest raw score attained by applicants during each shift and session, the NTA will apply the UGC NET Normalization using the percentile equivalency approach.

  • The NTA will convert the candidates' raw marks, obtained by them in various shifts and sessions, into the final NTA Score (percentile).

  • The Lowest NTA Score for each category will be used to calculate the UGC NET Cut Off Marks.

  • UGC NET Marks and score for each candidate either higher or lower will get the score by 100 percentile. '

  • The UGC NET cutoff and the final merit lists will be prepared based on UGC NET normalized scores.

  • UGC NET normalization is done Up to 7 decimal places.

  • The normalized UGC NET scores will differ from the candidates' percentage of marks. The candidates will also get a percentile score in addition to the normalized score.

UGC NET Normalization Formula 2024

The NTA percentile score will be calculated using the percentile equivalence method to provide normalized results for all the candidates who took the exam in various shifts and sessions. In general, the marks secured will be converted for each session into a scale from 100 to 0. The following formula will be used to determine a candidate's percentile score:

UGC NET 2024 Result Preparation: Step-wise

Check out the step-by-step guide for UGC NET result preparation 2024:

Step 1: Equal Distribution of Candidates in Two Shifts

To start with, all the test takers will be divided randomly into two halves and will be categorized under two sessions. The sessions will be bifurcated as followed:

Session 1: Day 1/Shift 1
Session 2: Day 1/Shift 2

Since the UGC NET exam is conducted over numerous days, all the sessions will be divided similarly.

Step 2: Preparation of Result for Each UGC NET Session

UGC NET Exam Result 2024 will be available in one of two formats: Percentile Score for the Overall Raw Score Each applicant in the session will have their percentiles computed as follows:

NTA Score Computation & UGC NET 2024 Result Preparation

  • The NTA scores, which will be utilized for the compilation of the results and further processing to decide the allocation, will be created by combining the Percentile scores for the Total Raw Scores for all sessions (Session-1: Day-1 Shift-1, Session-2: Day-1 Shift-2) as determined in Step-2 above.
  • The NTA Scores are the combined Percentile Scores for the Overall Raw Score for the Session. The NTA Scores will also be utilized in the calculation of the UGCS NET Result 2024 and the allocation processing.

How to Calculate Cutoff Marks for UGC NET Assistant Professor

The  UGC NET cutoff 2024 for Assistant Professor is calculated as follows:
  • A minimum of 6% of all applicants who appear in both UGC NET exams must meet the qualifications (total slots or Eligibility for Assistant Professor).

  • According to the reservation rules, the total number of spots available for the exam must be divided among the various groups.

  • Candidates have to pass both Papers I and II to be eligible for JRF and Assistant Professor. For General (Unreserved) candidates, the minimum aggregate score for both Papers is 40%, and for candidates in the following Reserved Categories (SC, ST, and OBC), the minimum aggregate score is 35%. (belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer, PwD, and Transgender).

  • According to the approach described below, the number of applicants who must be deemed qualified in any topic for a specific category is determined.

Example: Number of candidates to be declared qualified for Eligibility for Assistant Professor in the subject ‘English’ for the general (UR) Category?

Number of candidates belonging to UR category who secure at least 40% for General category in English' (x) Total slots derived for General category (÷) Total number of candidates belonging to General category over all subjects who secure at least 40% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together

The qualifying cut-off for Assistant Professor in "English" for the General category will be determined by the combined percentage of the two papers according to the finalized number of available positions. The same formula must be applied to all the other subjects for all categories.

How to Calculate cut off marks for UGC NET - Both JRF and Assistant Professor

Those who want to be considered for both JRF and Assistant Professor positions must understand how the UGC NET cutoff is determined for each position. The total number of slots available for awarding JRFs in this instance are divided among the various categories following the reservation procedure. The table below contains the process through which the subject-wise and category-wise allocation of JRF is done.

The number of candidates to be declared qualified for JRF and Assistant Professor in the “English” Subject for the general (UR) category.

The number of candidates from the general category who opted for JRF and Assistant Professor received at least 40% in English be (x), therefore, the total slots calculated for the general / Total number of applicants from the general category across all subjects who received at least 40% in both papers combined. This will give the actual cut-off for UGC NET for JRF and Assistant Professor.

What is Percentile Score in UGC NET 2024?

The UGC NET percentile scores are computed based on the relative performance of all the applicants who appeared for the exam. For each session of the exam, the applicant's scores are transformed into a scale that ranges from 100 to 0, based on the marks obtained from them. To rectify the possibility of a tie, the percentile scores are computed to a precision of seven decimal points.

All candidates who pass the exam will get e-certificates and JRF award letters from NTA when the UGC NET results are announced. After then, all competent people might apply for assistant professor posts in Indian colleges and universities. The ability to do research in a candidate's chosen subject is also granted to those who pass the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) examination.
