Campus at a Glimpse
University of Rajasthan (UNIRAJ) is one of the oldest universities in Rajasthan, founded in 1947. UNIRAJ is located in the Pink City, Jaipur amidst the state's cultural heritage. The sprawling vintage campus of the university spreads across 435 acres of land. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by NAAC with an ‘A+’ grade.
Within its academic portfolio, UNIRAJ boasts a diverse range of courses at certificate, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. There are 196 UNIRAJ courses offered through 9 faculties namely arts, science, social sciences, law, engineering, education, commerce, management and fine arts. While the fee structure of the university is affordable, it lacks in providing ample internship and placement opportunities.
Furthermore, Rajasthan University Students Union (RUSU) is well-known for grooming students for politics. Various controversies related to RUSU have made the headlines of leading newspapers in the past. The atmosphere of the university appears to be more political than educational.
Let’s have a look at the overall scenario of UNIRAJ.
UNIRAJ Ranking: Declining!
UNIRAJ has been ranked by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), a private consulting organisation.
Particulars | Rank (2021-22) | Rank (2022-23) |
World Rank | 1698 | 1817 |
National Rank | 48 | 53 |
Employability Rank | 1548 | 1628 |
Research Rank | 1620 | 1747 |
Overall Score | 66.9 | 66.4 |
Our Take:
The rank of UNIRAJ has declined in all the categories in 2023 as compared to 2022. It shows a lack of effort made by the university. Also, it has not been ranked by any major agencies such as NIRF, Outlook, Times Higher Education, etc. This poses a question.
UNIRAJ Academia & Batch Size
UNIRAJ has published the updated syllabus as per the CBCS framework for undergraduate courses under NEP-2020. According to the student reviews, the curriculum followed by University of Rajasthan is updated and covers both theoretical and practical aspects. However, some students expect more improvement in academia. Students have also stated that the examination level of UNIRAJ is easy. The examinations are conducted annually and semester-wise depending on the course.
Sanctioned Intake vs Actual Intake
Sanctioned Intake | Actual Intake |
28166 | 26883 |
(As per the NIRF 2023 report submitted by UNIRAJ)
As per students’ feedback across platforms, footfall of students is generally low at the campus which results in a higher student-faculty ratio in classes.
Our Take:
Implementation of the curriculum as per NEP 2020 is a great initiative by UNIRAJ. This will help students to acquire more skill-based knowledge based on their interests. The actual intake of students is almost equal to the sanctioned intake. This shows the popularity of UNIRAJ among students. However, the lower footfall of students reflects the lenient attendance policy of the university. The university should focus more on improving the footfall by implementing a minimum attendance policy for students that can ensure the industry-readiness of maximum students.
UNIRAJ Infrastructure
Classroom: UNIRAJ has spacious and well-ventilated classrooms for students.
Auditorium/Seminar Halls/Labs: According to students, the university has a huge auditorium with a good seating capacity. It also has several seminar halls and laboratories in good condition.
Library: Students have praised the central library of UNIRAJ. Relevant books and study materials are available at the library. Also, students can access digital libraries such as DELNET, and E-ShodhSindhu.
Internet: According to student reviews, the university campus has a good wifi-connectivity.
Commute: UNIRAJ has a huge campus and commuting by foot from one department to another is difficulty. Based on students feedback, the university has e-rickshaw facilities available for students to commute within departments easily.
Hostel: Rajasthan University claims to have 18 hostels for boys and girls, 13 at the main campus and the rest at the constituent colleges. According to students, hostel and mess facilities are decent. The hostel fees for UG and PG students is around Rs 15,000 per annum which is quite affordable.
Activities: Based on student s' opinions at Quora, UNIRAJ conducts limited events and sports activities. The campus life of students is average. Most students do not attend university regularly and the ones who do are either involved in college politics or just hang out with friends.
Cafe/Hangouts: The university provides canteen facilities but the food quality is average as per students. UNIRAJ is located closer to most of the hangout places in Jaipur. Students can take a tour of the Pink City without travelling more than 5-10 km from the campus. Students can visit the famous Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal and City Place in a day while enjoying the mouth-savouring street food of Jaipur.
Cafe/Restaurants | Hangout Places |
Friend Zone | Apex Mall |
Awadh | Dolls Museum |
Burger Farm | Patrika Gate |
D’arte | Central Park |
Chole Bhature Inc | Albert Hall Museum |
Archana’s Platter | Smriti Van |
Chaudhary Restaurant and Bhojnalay | Jantar Mantar (5 km approx.) |
Egg World | Hawa Mahal (5 km approx.) |
Bistro | The City Palace (5 km approx.) |
Other facilities: Based on student reviews, the university has sports grounds and a complex with average facilities. It also provides a medical, transport and parking facility on campus.
Our Take:
The infrastructure of UNIRAJ includes average classrooms, labs, canteen and sports facilities. However, the hostel and library facilities are above average. The nominal fee of the hostel doesn’t make holes in students' pockets. The university needs to improve its classrooms and sports facilities.
UNIRAJ Internships and Placements
UNIRAJ Internships
The University of Rajasthan has included internships in its curriculum. However, not much is known about the internship opportunities it provides to the students as there are no reports or data available.
UNIRAJ Placements
The placement scenario at UNIRAJ is not at all satisfactory. Students have reported that the university does not provide ample job opportunities and most students enrol here only to get a degree. To get a deeper insight, check out the statistics of UNIRAJ placements for 2022 based on the NIRF Report 2023.
Programme | No. of students graduated | No. of students placed | Median Salary | No. of students selected for higher studies |
UG (3-year) | 6580 | 15 | INR 4.5 L | 5821 |
PG (1-year) | 583 | 3 | INR 2.84 L | 5 |
PG (2-year) | 2197 | 242 | INR 6.35 L | 201 |
Our Take:
The University of Rajasthan hasn’t released any official data related to internship opportunities. It clearly shows the university’s negligible efforts in providing proper training and exposure to the students. Also, the placement statistics of the university are not impressive. The situation raises concerns regarding overall student development. Students will get a degree for sure but of what use if they are not industry-ready or exposed to opportunities?
UNIRAJ Diversity & Demographics
UNIRAJ is a popular university in Rajasthan. However, its popularity outside the state is meagre. According to the NIRF report 2023, the statistics of the 2022 batch show only 1% of student enrollment from outside the state. Furthermore, no international student was admitted in that year. Also, female enrollment stood at 38% per cent of the total intake in 2022.

PG (2-year) | 4511 | 108 |

Total | 26,594 (99%) | 289 (1%) |
Male vs Female Sudents
Programme | No. of Male Students | No. of Female Students |
UG (3-year) | 13450 | 7337 |
UG (4-year) | 93 | 107 |
PG (1-year) | 437 | 254 |

PG-Integrated (5-year) | 296 | 290 |
Total | 16,490 (62%) | 10,393 (38%) |
Our Take:
UNIRAJ Jaipur lacks in providing inter-state and global diversity. Adding to it, 38% women enrollment is considerable but not very promising. To make sure other states students choose UNIRAJ, the university need to work on its management, administrative polices, infrastructure and facilities. Low female enrolment is another area which needs a fix up.
UNIRAJ Faculty/College Administration & Management
UNIRAJ has listed more than 711 faculty members in the NIRF Report 2023. The regular faculty is around 500 out of which 90% are PhD holders. According to a large number of students, the faculty at UNIRAJ are experienced and supportive towards them. Students are mainly involved in politics and the management of the university supports them. Students enrol in regular programmes but don’t attend classes regularly. The administration and management have no proper policy related to attendance.
Our Take:
Despite having substantial number of learned teachers, students can not reap the benefit unless they attend classes regularly. This also highlights the management’s failure in implementing the minimum attendance policy. Providing mere degrees should not be the motive of a state university. The administration seems to operate the university without a dedication to truly educate students and a genuine commitment to promote student development.
UNIRAJ Location
The University of Rajasthan is located at JLN Marg, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. JLN Marg is considered an urban locality in Jaipur. It is well-connected via road, metro, railways and airways. Various cafes, restaurants, malls, markets, banks, ATMs, and hangout places are located in the vicinity of UNIRAJ.
UNIRAJ: Expectation vs Reality CLD Verdict!
Rajasthan University has enjoyed immense popularity in the state due to its long-standing presence. However, it fails to attract students belonging to other states which makes it limited to Rajasthan only. While it offers a wide range of courses, the lack of management and administration in implementing minimum attendance has limited its scope to provide genuine education.
UNIRAJ may have a substantial number of dedicated faculty but it lacks in providing industry experience and exposure to the students. It has become a home for future politicians in Rajasthan. Students are found participating in RUSU activities more than academic activities. Students interested in research and education (or just getting a degree) can benefit from decent faculty and facilities. However, it’s surely not for those who aspire for skill-based learning, exposure and placements.
