IIT Kharagpur Students win First ‘Accenture Innovation Challenge’

  • Students of IIT Kharagpur (IIT Kgp) have won the Accenture Innovation Challenge - an innovative sleep assistant that monitors sleep patterns of a person remotely through a wireless device. A total of 13,000 students from 900 colleges participated.

The students of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur have emerged as winners of first ‘Accenture Innovation Challenge’. The students have come up with an innovative sleep assistant that monitors sleep patterns of a person remotely through a wireless device.

IIT Kharagpur’s ‘Sleep Doc’ also uses intelligent voice interactive system to suggest changes to the user. Sleep Doc plays a vital role in using live data monitoring system that tracks a user’s heart and breathing rate. If the device finds any discrepancy in the parameters of breathing and heart rate, it alerts the nearest doctor. Through this device, the affected person might get immediate medical assistance. IIT Kharagpur’s Sleep Doc received wide appreciation from the jury members.

Highlights of First ‘Accenture Innovation Challenge’: -

  • Another one of the winning teams, Dronacharya Group of Institutions has come up with ‘BinBot’, a robot, which performs waste management tasks including waste collection, segregation and disposal.
  • Students from Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram have come up with ‘Real Time Text to Braille Converter’, a letter-to-letter Braille converter that prints the recognised letter in Braille Cell. The speciality of the device is ‘small cuboid’, which is possible to hold with three fingers. It enables the visually impaired to read any printed text.
  • Students from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee have come with ‘SNAP, a solution to assist farmers in increasing the quality of farm field. SNAP optimises the farmers’ spend on fertilisers and increase income by sorting the problem of soil acidification, caused due to the overuse of fertilisers.
  • A women team from Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Bhimavaram (Andhra Pradesh) has developed ‘Sahaya’, a Blockchain solution, which deals with unique challenges associated with making donations.
  • A team from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has come up with a ‘Compact Bio-Inspired Robot’ for septic and sewage line cleaning & inspection.

Accenture, a popular global professional services organised the event, witnessed the participation of students from popular institutes across the country. The main objective of organising the competition was to inspire the spirit of innovation among college students in the country. The first edition of ‘Accenture Innovation Challenge’ witnessed the participation of 13,000 students from 900 colleges. The participants submitted over 7,000 innovation ideas to the selection committee.
