131 Candidates from Minority Communities Cleared UPSC Exam
- A total of 131 candidates from the minority communities of India have cleared the civil services examination 2017.
- This has been possible due to the efforts of HRD that is always looking for new ways to improve higher education.
A record of 131 candidates from the minority communities have cleared the civil services examination 2017. Mukhtar Abbas, Union Minister said that the government has created an environment for such talent to prosper and outshine.
The government has constantly been working to revise their old schemes such as Nai Udaan and Naya Savera. They have also increased the financial assistance for the candidates qualifying the UPSC prelims. Earlier they were provided with Rs. 50,000 but now it has gone up to Rs 1 lakh.

Apart from financial assistance, HRD Ministry is also running a free coaching course for meritorious candidates belonging to minority communities but are passionate regarding UPSC examinations.
He further added that Modi’s Policy- development with dignity, without any discrimination has been a tremendous support to these candidates. Since independence, it is for the very first time that 131 candidates from minority communities out of which 51 candidates are Muslims have been selected for civil services. This has been possible due to the efforts of HRD that is always looking for new ways to improve higher education in the country.

Last year 126 candidates from minority communities including 52 Muslims cleared the UPSC exam. This year six Muslim candidates have secured ranks in top 100 out of which three of them are women. One of the main driving force behind the growing number is the initiative taken by the government. The government has been taking various efforts to provide these students with the safe learning environment.
