14 IIMs Without Any Directors: HRD Ministry to Lok Sabha
Out of the 20 IIMs in the country, 14 IIMs are without its directors, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of State for Human Resource Development informed Lok Sabha.
At a time when the central government of the country has been planning for the expansion of management education in the country and is coming with new IIMs, surprisingly out of the 20 IIMs in the country, 14 IIMs are without its directors.

In a written reply, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of State for HRD or Human Resource Development informed Lok Sabha on Monday, 6th February 2017, that the posts of directors was lying vacant in IIM Bangalore,IIM Sirmaur,IIM Amritsar, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Nagpur, IIM Raipur, IIM Udaipur, IIM Tiruchirappalli,IIM Visakhapatnam, and the newly established IIM Jammu.
The minister said that seven new IIMs -- Amritsar, Bodh Gaya, Sirmaur, Sambalpur, Visakhapatnam, Jammu and Nagpur are being looked after mainly by the directors of mentor IIMs until the appointment of the permanent directors.
For other IIMs, either the tenure of the retiring directors have been extended or the senior professor of the institute has been given the responsibility and has been entrusted with the additional charge of the post of director for the time being.
The search-cum-selection committee has recommended a panel of names for the post of directors already. They are under the consideration of the government. However, names for IIM Jammu and Kozhikode are yet to be recommended. They have already issued advertisement for IIM Kozhikode and IIM Jammu posts, the minister informed.

Pandey informed about the government’s resolve to establish 20 world class teaching and research institutions in the country and they are to be categorised as ‘Institutions of Eminence’.
He also said that as per the draft of the new guidelines for the institutions of eminence, all public educational institutions like IIMs are eligible to apply for those positions.
