33% Non-Engineers Among New PGP Batch of IIM Ahmedabad
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad recently flagged its PGP academic session of 2018-20. As many as 33% students enrolled in the course belong to the non-engineering background, a trend that has beaten records of the last five years. The new batch comprises of 399 students from diverse backgrounds.
IIM Ahmedabad, which usually witnesses the maximum number of engineering graduates competing for the admission to PG management courses saw a change in the trend. In the last five years, for the first time, more non-engineering graduates competed for PGP seats in the top management institute of the country.
At IIM Ahmedabad, 33% of the students enrolled in PGP course are non-engineers. The percentage of non-engineers in PGP course at IIM Ahmedabad for the academic session 2018-20 is the highest in the last five years.

The 2016-18 PGP batch of IIM Ahmedabad had only 20% non-engineers while the percentage went up to 32% for the batch of 2017-19.
As far as gender diversity concerned, this year, 27% women candidates enrolled in the flagship PGP course of the IIM Ahmedabad. The PGP batch of 2018-20 comprises of 399 students from diverse backgrounds.
Admissions official at IIM Ahmedabad, Professor Arpatim Guha revealed that the discussion-based learning method at IIM Ahmedabad is the prime reason for the presence of students from diverse backgrounds. The admission policy of IIM Ahmedabad is also flexible so that students from different states and cultures get a chance to study at the premier institute, he highlighted.

The new batch of PGP-FABM course of IIM Ahmedabad also enrolled 39% of students from Food Technology field and 35% of students from Agriculture field.
