4,000 DU Journals Not Recognized by UGC
- As per UGC, the journals of Delhi University have been removed from the approved list due to their poor quality and false claims.
- However, DU teachers and students have protested against this move of government and said no such restriction can be imposed.
4000 Delhi University journals of Departments of Commerce and Shri Ram College of Commerce have been removed by University Grants Commission (UGC) from its approved list.
According to UGC, these journals have been removed from their approved list due to their poor quality and insufficient content. The UGC had received various complaints regarding the poor quality of these journals and their false claims from faculty, scholars, researchers and media representatives. Considering these complaints, UGC re-evaluated and went through ever journal recommended by the university and also the ones indexed by Indian Citation Index on filtering the criteria set by the Standing Committee.

However, teachers and students of the varsity have protested against the move and said no such restriction can be imposed by the government on higher education. Aaditya Narayan Mishra, DU teacher expressed his opinions on the matter stating that journals were removed arbitrarily. The government just wants to destroy the research and this is totally unethical on their part.
One of the ad hoc geography teacher at DU college shared her experience as well. According to her, the recruitment process started last year December and during the screening she had few of her articles published. During the interview, she did not know if her points will be calculated or not. The other journals in the list are I Thematics Journal of Geography and Indian Journal of Geography and Environment, Vidyasagar University.

The All India Students’ Association opposed this decision and said that the most important criterion for rejection is whether the respective journal has a website which provides email or full postal addresses of Editors. The government has just rejected the journals on the baseless ground due to which research scholars and faculty members of the university would have to pay the price.
