45 Additional PG Medical Seats for Faridkot Medical College, 5 for GMC Patiala
Vice-Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Dr. Raj Bahadur revealed that the increase in PG medical seats would improve the patient care at the hospital.
Recently, Medical Council of India (MCI) has allotted 3,000 PG medical seats to various states out of which 50 seats have been allotted to Punjab. Guru Gobind Singh Medical College located in Faridkot got 45 additional PG medicals seats and the number of seats has gone up from 53 to 98. On the other hand, Government Medical College located in Patiala got five medical seats and Government Medical College located in Amritsar did not get any additional seats.

Recently, MCI decided to increase the PG medical seats in clinical subjects of government medical colleges and recommended the same to the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The main objective of MCI is to revise teacher-student ratio. As per the latest notification issued by Medical Council of India, the teacher-student ratio must be 1:3 for a professor and 1:2 for an associate professor at all government medical colleges.

Vice-Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Dr. Raj Bahadur revealed that the increase in PG medical seats would improve the patient care at the hospital. He pointed that junior doctors are the backbone of the hospital. The state has been facing the shortage of specialists, on the other hand. Therefore, increase in PG medical seats is a boon.
Government Medical College located in Patiala got three seats for gynaecology, obstetrics, and one seat each in psychiatry and ophthalmology. The admission to these seats will be filled through counselling process that will be conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. On the other hand, half of the seats will be filled through the central quota.
