5 New Medical Colleges in West Bengal
The state West Bengal will soon have five new medical colleges. The colleges would come up in the following districts: Rampurhat in Birbhum
The state West Bengal will soon have five new medical colleges.
The colleges would come up in the following districts:
- Rampurhat in Birbhum
- Cooch behar
- Diamond harbour in South 24-Parganas
- Purulia
- Raiganj in North Dinajpur
This decision will lead to an increase in MBBS seats with each medical college having an intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats and in total of 500 seats.
The Centre has given approval for a total of 58 new medical colleges across the country out of which 5 are in West Bengal.
The responsibility of setting up the colleges is on the respective state government and the funds will be shared between the Centre and the state government. The ratio of sharing the funds will be 60:40.
The districts which have been chosen for this purpose does not have any medical college in them at the moment.
The new medical colleges would be attached to the existing district or referral hospitals with the distance between the district or referral hospital and the medical college being within 10 km.
At the moment, there are 9 medical colleges in west bengal which can have a total of 1900 students.
