The new bill passed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, July 19 will be the inception of six new Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad under the domain of the IIT Act.

The bill was introduced by HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar, who took charge of the office a few days back. In his statement of objects and reasons, he said that the government the newly set six IITs have been recognized as registered societies.

He also stressed on bringing these institutes under the ambit of the IIT act so that they can be recognized as institutions of national importance.

Another purpose of the bill is to identify the ISM Dhanbad as an institute of national importance and integrate it with the IIT stream of colleges so that it will be known as IIT (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad.

The six new IITs that the bill elaborates about will be structured in Tirupati, Palakkad, Goa, Dharwar, Bhilai and Jammu.

Apart from this, the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research (Amendment) Bill 2016 was also presented by the HRD minister in the Lok Sabha.

This bill proposes to make amendments to the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act of 2007. It also recommends the establishment of a NIT in Andhra Pradesh that has been set up as registered society.
