After the NEET UG 2018 results, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has blacklisted around 82 medical colleges. These 82 colleges will be unable to offer fresh admissions to the candidates for the 2018-19 academic sessions following which the number of seats will drop from 64,000 to 10,000.

The decision to blacklist the colleges has been made as per the recommendations made by the Medical Council of India (MCI). As per the report of the MCI, these colleges lacked proper infrastructure, faculty and other facilities which are the basis of assessment to grant approval of the same.

The ministry rejected the approvalof establishing the new medical colleges as well. As per the approval, 68 new medical colleges were to be set up across the country. The establishment of these colleges would have added the number to 9,000 additional seats. The rejection of this approval will lead to the loss of seats. Many medical aspirants are likely to suffer as the seats are not enough to accommodate all the students.
