<p>To pay a hearty tribute to legendary Bhagat Singh, Students of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), Mysore has recently constructed a mosaic portrait of Shaheed Bhagat Singh with around 12,000 coins.
The portrait was made approx by 7,500 silver-coloured coins of two rupees and 5,000 gold-coloured coins of five rupees denominations. The portrait measured 12x10 feet. The coins were purchased from State Bank of Mysore.
"A group of eight information science students came to me with this great idea of constructing a mosaic portrait in memory of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his 109th birth anniversary. I ideas was really unique and I could not but give permission,” said the principal of the college.
"I have made three world records all alone. This time around, I wanted to do something along with my friends, so I thought of this idea. Bhagat Singh was an influential revolutionary, and I want youngsters from this generation to be like him,” said Shreyas Raju a student.
Anand Umare, 22, another student of the group, said, "Our group of eight approached our principal with the idea. He wholeheartedly agreed to help us. Of the total `40,000 expenses we will incur for the task, our principal gave `15,000; `10,000 came from engineering students; `5,000 from Ph.D. students; and `10,000 from our placement office."
The portrait was constructed by 10 students at the quadrangle of the university campus at KR Circle.
