Soon the relation betweenhindu mythology and modern science will be in front of the engineering students of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi University in Bhopal. With the new curriculum in Hindi, students will now be learning from the Vedas, and writings of bygone-era mathematician Bhaskaracharya and sage scientist Acharya Kanad.

According to Mohan Lal Chhipa, vice-chancellor, people usually oppose the relation between modern science and legacies of Hindu rishis and munis. But only a few know that all of it is related and many Indian seers came up with engineering, medical science and astronomy inventions. Keeping this in mind, they have decided to educate the students about the Indian scientist, before telling them about the western scientists. By doing this, the college aims at promoting Indian science and culture over the western science. Also, the college wants the students to learn about the findings of the Indian scientists as they are in no way less than the western science.

It is estimated that the reason behind the neo-nationalistic approach is the lack of knowledge of Indian students about the findings and scientific information mentioned in shlokas and Sanskrit vedas.

Resulting which, the students in India are familiar with names like John Dalton and not of Acharya Kanad.

Details of the programme:

An additional subject will be added in the curriculum named Bharatiya Gyan aur Parampara (Indian knowledge and tradition)

The students will not have to appear for any exam at the end of the session regarding the same.

Some of the teachings of the news subject include:

  • Vedas,
  • Hindu scriptures
  • Works of sage Bhrigu’s Shilp Samhita on engineering science and metallurgy
  • Narad Shilp Shastra on arts and crafts
  • Charaka Samhita that deals with Ayurvedic healing

Though this decision by the institute is not welcomed by all. According to many professors, this decision of the institute will not only generate confusion among the students but will also distort their view on the subject.
