<p>The Kerala government has cancelled admissions to 61 MBBS seats in the MES Medical College at Perinthalmanna and six BDS seats in the MES Dental College.
The Justice J.M. James Committee which examined this year’s admission to these colleges, found the management had kept out candidates at 1,000th or 2,000th positions in the rank list to admit someone who came at the 21,000th position. The Justice James Committee had examined the medical admission to the MES Medical College and Dental College on a direction by the High Court of Kerala.
The government has been advised to withdraw the essentiality certificates given to the medical colleges that have not signed agreements with the government.
These medical colleges may also face disciplinary actions for denying students a chance to practise in the primary health centres and to witness post-mortem proceedings in government hospitals.
Now the state government is considering to write to the Medical Council of India to conduct detailed examination before renewing their recognition.
Earlier government had written to MCI against the Karuna Medical College in Kannur, but the college manages to operate with a stay order from the High Court of Kerala.
The committee has informed the court and the college managements of the decision to cancel the admissions. The court has to take a final decision on the matter. The court has asked the college managements whether it has notified open positions in newspaper editions outside Kozhikode.
The State Minorities Commission has recommended cancellation of recognition for six self-financing medical colleges accused of demanding bribes and bank guarantees of lakh or rupees in exchange for admission to courses. They are Mukkom KMCT, Perinthalmanna MES, Kannur Medical College, Palakkad Karuna Medical College, Kollam Azeeziya Medical College and Kollam Travancore Medical College.
The commission has asked these colleges for the lists of students admitted to various courses.
