<p>Christian Medical College, Vellore has started 1o days Sixth Advanced Vaccinology Course in India (INDVAC) 2015.
Dr. Anuradha, who is one of the four doctors from the CMC and very few from India to have undergone the two-week Advanced Course in Vaccinology in France in 2010, is the Course Director.
Between 1985 and 2010, India did not introduce any vaccine into its National Immunisation Schedule. Buy today the country is poised to introduce new vaccines like Rotavirus Vaccine (a vaccine to prevent deaths due to diarrhoea) and Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (vaccine against pneumonia). The Government of India also plans to introduce the Rotavirus Vaccine, Injectible Polio Vaccine and a vaccine against Japanese encephalitis under the National Immunisation Programme” said Dr. Anuradha.
The three institutes CMC, along with the Society for Applied Studies, Kolkata and the KEM Hospital, Pune, conducted and completed the clinical trials for the Rotavirus Vaccine.
Thirty-nine medical faculty members including paediatricians, infectious disease and community health specialists, public health personnel, those engaged in vaccinology clinical trials, researchers and programme managers from international organisations such as UNICEF, WHO and MSF, France, including 27 from India, five from African countries like South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Mozambique, and seven from SAARC countries would be participating in the INDVAC 2015.
