Graduates Offered Better Packages in Ahmedabad than Postgraduates
Interviews for the Gujarat Mega Placement Camp were being conducted between 06th and 20th February 2020.
At the Gujarat Government’s Mega Placement Camp, arts, science, engineering, commerce and business administration graduates successfully bagged higher packages compared to the postgraduates in the same discipline. Except for the Pharmacy graduates, Bachelor’s degree holders from other disciplines managed to bag an annual package of around 6 lakh per annum. The Pharmacy graduates were only able to bag an annual package of around 1.5 lakh per annum.
According to the Indian Express’ acquired data of the offered annual salary package at Gujarat Government’s Mega Placement Camp, the postgraduates from the same discipline could not grab such attractive packages as the graduates have. ME, MCA, MBA, M.Sc degree holders were only offered an annual package as high as 2.5 to 3 lakhs per annum. Only MA students were offered a package of 6 lakhs per annum.
A total of 49% of students who participated in the interviews from 30 districts were chosen by various companies. The interviews were conducted between 06th and 20th February. The Gujarat Education Department is expected to analyze the trend of the result. A webinar which will include the industry stakeholders will be held regarding the outcome of the event said Anju Sharma, the Principal Secretary Education of the state.

In total, 1.3 lakh graduating students from various Government and Grant-in-aid Technical & Non-Technical colleges registered for the vacant positions in the placement camps. A total of 4,671 industries were present at the event for filling up more than 75,000 vacancies. However, only 36% of the total registered students were present for the interviews.

To make sure that the placement was a success, several measures were undertaken by the education department like roping in district collectors etc.
