Shift to Permanent Campus Within 2 Years; AICTE to New Engineering Colleges
AICTE has made it mandatory for new engineering colleges operating out of temporary campus to shift to permanent campus within two years.
Just after the directive came from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) of having zero tolerance for the state who fail to provide land for IIT and IIIT institutes, the All India Council of Technical Association has directed the new Engineering Colleges to shift to new campus within 2 years of establishment. The AICTE new norms have issued a directive where it has said, failing to shift to a new campus will the institute liable to reduce intake capacity by 50% and extend the prescribed time by 2 more years. If the institute fails to that as well, further action by the council will follow.
A senior official of AICTE informed that after the institute receives the Letter of Approval (LoA) from AICTE, the institute has to move from temporary campus to a permanent one within a timeframe of 2 years. An expert visit committee will be made by AICTE for conducting visits to such institutions for assessing the status of the state government for making the new campus operational for these institutions in the permanent location.
He further noted that if the institute even after getting approval fails to shift, the intake capacity of the institute will be cut down to half. Still, the institution will be given a time span of 2 years, failing to which, will cause further appropriate actions by the council.

The institutes which are offering courses in Applied Arts and Crafts & Vocational (Technical) courses without AICTE Approval will also have to follow the same norms.
The AICTE has decided that the affiliating university or board and the state government shall send their views to the regional office concerned on the application received by them, within one week from the final date of submission of application.

The official informed that previously, the time frame used to be of 21 days which was used to extend the process. It has now been reduced to a 7-days time the official said.
