The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has officially announced that the new syllabus for engineering courses will be released on January 24, 2018. Union HRD Minister, Mr. Prakash Javadekar will release the new engineering syllabus at AICTE office, Delhi. The new engineering syllabus will be implemented in all AICTE-affiliated technical institutes across the country from the upcoming academic session. In 2017, AICTE had proposed an 'Exit Exam' for engineering graduates to assess employability of student.

Giving details about the new syllabus for engineering courses, Chairperson of AICTE, Dr. Anil Sahasrabuddhe revealed that 11 expert subject committees took extensive care to include latest advancements in engineering and technology in the new curriculum. The committees considered various suggestions and recommendations to revamp the old syllabus, he added.

Adding further, AICTE Chief mentioned that the existing engineering syllabus is not 100% relevant to the current trend. Therefore, changes have been made in the syllabus and more topics have been added to suit the latest advancements in engineering and technology, he highlighted.

Mr. Sahasrabuddhe also mentioned that the students who take admission in engineering courses from the next academic session would have to undergo a compulsory three-week orientation programme. The orientation programme has been included in the new syllabus through which students will be acquainted with basic concepts of engineering and Basic English language skills. Similarly, the orientation programme will also reduce inferiority complex among the students, he added.

Already, AICTE conducted five workshops across the country for college representatives to bring proper awareness and understanding of the new curriculum. More workshops will be conducted soon, said by an AICTE official.
