AICTE Announces Revised Eligibility Criteria for Admission to Management and Hotel Management Courses
In the Admission Process Handbook 2020-21, AICTE has defined the norms to be followed by approved institutions for setting the eligibility criteria and duration of various Diploma, Post Diploma, UG, PG, Lateral Entry, Integrated and Part-Time courses in Management and Hotel Management.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), in the 'Admission Process Handbook 2020-21', announced the norms for setting the eligibility criteria of various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered the Management and Hotel Management streams. The handbook also provides the norms for setting the duration and statutory reservation in the various courses.
The list of courses provided under these norms by AICTE is quite extensive and not only includes courses at the UG and PG level but also at the Diploma, Post Diploma levels. Norms for Integrated, Lateral Entry and Part-Time courses have also been provided in the handbook. The colleges offering management courses in India, and the colleges offering hotel management courses in India will be required to adhere to these norms when applying for renewal.

As per the data provided by AICTE, there are currently 10,935 approved technical institutions in India with a total approved intake of 3.27 million. In addition, 129 institutes are deemed to be universities and these have a total approved intake of 1.41 lakh. The total approved intake for the Hotel Management and Catering Technology course in India is just of 6,600 while that of Management courses is around 3.70 lakhs.
