All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has closed 97 institutes due to not getting an extension of approval (EOA) for the last 6 years. The 97 government, aided, and private institutes were penalized for failing to apply through the AICTE site for the EOA. The notification regarding this was given by the AICTE on March 4, 2022. Moreover, AICTE has requested that the involved affiliating bodies, state governments, and DTE submit their objections within 15 days of the date of this letter.
In February, the AICTE stated that all deemed institutions that have not yet received AICTE clearance are needed to do so in the academic year 2022-23, otherwise, the Council will be forced to discontinue awarding partial permission to only a few technical programs.

Important Highlights
- The AICTE has instructed Postgraduate Diploma Management (PGDM) institutes to seek approval for the 2022- 23 academic year before commencing the admission process.
- The authorities have also stated that any institution running any technical program in contravention of rules or the AICTE approval procedure guidelines will face legal action immediately.
- The authorities have also decided that no partial approval will be granted to any universities whether they are deemed to be university or state universities or private universities.

According to the AICTE's official notice, "institutions that have not applied for EoA for Six years consecutively shall not be eligible to apply under Break in EoA and such institutions shall apply as a new Technical Institution following appropriate procedure for closure of the approved programs/courses."
