AICTE to Improve Employability of Engineering & MBA Students in Association with Wheebox
Surveys conducted between industries & higher educational institutes reveal that there is a high discrepancy in the skill-set of these graduates. AICTE & Wheebox aims to bridge the gap with this initiative.
India produces lakhs of engineering and MBA graduates every year. Figuratively speaking, in spite of having such a bulk of skilled work force, India is still struggling with unemployment amongst the youth. So much so, that highly qualified engineering graduates are forced to apply for the job of a Grade IV staff in government organisations. Many others are working for a far less pay and capacity as Data Entry Operators, Customer Care Executives etc.
Same is the case with MBA graduates. In spite of getting such niche degrees, Indian students are dealing with the rampantly growing outage of unemployment. Various surveys conducted between industries & higher educational institutes reveal that there is a high discrepancy in the skill-set of these graduates. Either the course curriculum is not practically implementable in the work or the students lack a sense of acumen to carry out the tasks.

Addressing this gap in student skill-set & industry requirement, the All India Council of Technical Education or AICTE, a statutory body by the Government of India that acts as an Advisor for technical education affairs in India has partnered with Wheebox, a global online skill assessment firm to improve the employability skills engineering & MBA students.
Parameters to Analyze Skills:
Under this association between AICTE & Wheebox, the latter will:
- Conduct employability skill test to assess students on their problem-solving skills, computing skills, numerical aptitude, English language, and psychometric traits.
- Assess students’ respective domain knowledge
Talking about this initiative, Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman – AICTE said, “AICTE’s strategic association with Wheebox will enable candidates from technical and business schools to test their employability skills in a standardised way by using Wheebox Employability Skill Test”.

Founder & CEO – Wheebox, Nirmal Singh said, “There is a significant skill gap in the country with above 60 per cent of students unemployable, highlighting the urgent need of revamping education.”
He further added that through this association with AICTE, students will be in a better position to identify their job readiness, which in turn will help them marry their talents according to the needs of the industry.
