AICTE to Set Up Four Teacher Training Academies to Make Teachers More Tech-Savvy

As a part of its initiatives, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to conduct training sessions for teachers associated with AICTE colleges and resource centres. The primary objective of this training will be to make the teachers tech-savvy and introduce them to the different concepts of blend learning, that incorporates both traditional teaching methods as well as the use of online and digital media.

In order to incorporate training to teachers, AICTE will set up four teacher training academies in India. These training academies will equip the candidates with the latest changes in the technical education.

AICTE will set up four teacher training academies in the following locations: -

• Jaipur
• Baroda
• Guwahati
• Trivandrum

The Jaipur-based teacher training academy will start functioning within the next one and a half year while the other three academies will start functioning within two years. The academies were being built on land provided free of cost by the respective state governments.

AICTE is aiming to train about six lakh teachers across the National Resource Centers (NRCs) in India for which 40-hours content will be prepared and created for varied fields such as sciences, law, literature etc. As it will be a fresh training course module, the teachers will be enabled to keep pace with the changing technologies in the respective domains/fields for them to excel.

While elaborating on the concept, the Director of PMSSS and SWAYAM, Manpreet Singh Manna said that there a need to bridge the gap between students and teachers. Nowadays, the students are more tech-savvy and heavily dependent on online resources for studies and learning. He also added that AICTE has approached faculty and students of IITs, NITs and other central universities to help prepare content for the training module.

Since many teachers and professors come from a specific educational background, say, for example, one has pursued civil engineering at the undergraduate or postgraduate level and then ventured into teaching, he/she may not be adept with the latest industry trends and teaching techniques for the students to be able to grasp better. The entire thrust of the training will be to make classroom teaching more engaging and suitable for today's time.

With this approach, AICTE aims to target as many as six lakh teachers for training purposes in the next few years. In today's world, where there is exposure to online resources, the need to stay updated is imperative.
