AIIMS Collaborates with University College London for Joint Research
AIIMS New Delhi and University College of London (UCL) have signed an MoU for joint research initiatives, student-teacher exchange programmes etc. AIIMS MoU with UCL will focus on research initiatives in Neuromuscular Diseases.
On February 23, 2019, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with University College London to collaborate in various areas like research programmes, workshops, student exchange programmes and other medical science related initiatives. According to a statement released by Randeep Guleria - AIIMS Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi has also been engaged to carry out research-based studies on Environmental issues in India.
According to Prof. Michael Arthur - President UCL, the focus of the research will be on the increasing level of pollution in India and it’s detrimental effects on the Indian population, especially maternal health.

International Center for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Diseases (ICGMN) led by UCL identifies unique genes and other factors responsible for Neuromuscular Diseases like Muscular Dystrophy, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Motor Neuron Disease. ICGMN aims at bringing scientists, clinicians and academics from the present member countries to combat the menace of Neuromuscular Diseases.

The ICGMN presently includes countries like the United Kingdom, Brazil, India, South Africa, Zambia and Turkey. The South African centre of ICGMN will come up soon. AIIMS has recently partnered with the ICGMN for the ongoing research in Neuromuscular Diseases.
