All States Should Have Atleast One NIELIT: Union Minister of Electronics & IT

With an objective to make the nation more vibrant digitally, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology urged that all the states should have at least one NIELIT or National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology. On May 6, 2017, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated the first NIELIT Bhavan at New Delhi.

Delivering the inaugural speech, Mr. Prasad directed all the concerned departments to gather resources to transform India into a digital literate country. He marked it as a top priority and directed the officials to pool the resources as early as possible. He further exhorted that there should be at least on NIELIT centre in each state for the better implementation of skill development programmes of the government of India.

National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology will play a significant role in empowering youth through various skill development programmes and capacity building initiatives.

Mr. Prasad further emphasised that the demand for training in basic Cyber Security concepts has been increasing, and there is a need to address this challenge. Training the youth in basic concepts of Cyber Security is possible with NIELIT. There is a need to expand the scope of NIELIT, and the government must establish a separate NIELIT in each state.

Mr. Prasad also said that the ministry would take steps to make all governments services at central and state level digitally available to the citizens of India. The ministry will seek help from NIELIT for the same. The ministry will work towards transforming India into a digitally empowered nation.
