Allahabad University Constituent Colleges to Offer Ph.D. Courses from 2019-20
Allahabad University has decided to allow its constituent colleges to offer PhD courses from the 2019-20 academic year. Until now, only the main campus of Allahabad University was offering seats for PhD Programme.
Allahabad University constituent colleges will now be able to offer seats in Ph.D. courses from 2019-20 academic session. As of now, the Ph.D. programme is offered only at the main campus of AU. Many students who were unable to get admission at the AU for merit reasons after clearing Common Reseach Entrance Test (CRET), raised a hopeful suggestion if they could get a seat in one of the constituent colleges of AU.
The Academic Council has decided that the degree colleges will also provide Ph.D. courses. The colleges can however only start the admission process for the upcoming academic session, i.e. 2019-20. The Academic Council will be setting the new set of rules and regulations along with the newer framework to incorporate degree colleges and help them in governing the research admission on the main campus as well as the constituent colleges as well.

One of the officials from the University said that prior to this decision, only the Allahabad University main campus offered the Ph.D. programme. However, they are now awaiting the approval of the executive committee to let the degree colleges offer seats in Ph.D. as well. Although, allowing degree colleges to provide Ph.D. programme as well will bring up certain problems like the financial burden, how the doctoral committee would function as well as the advisory committee along with the role of the supervisor.
