Allahabad University Lacks Funds for Development: UGC Audit
- Lack of funds, excessive litigation and internal politics are the setbacks that are making university ‘unworkable’ and ‘unviable’, pointed by UGC audit.
- The audit team visited Allahabad University for three days, from November 13 to 15, 2017.
The recent UGC audit of Allahabad University termed the performance and condition of the varsity as deplorable. The audit pointed the lack of funds, excessive litigation and internal politics are the major reasons that are making university ‘unworkable’ and ‘unviable’. Already, the Vice Chancellor of Allahabad University, Mr. R L Hangloo is under the scanner of HRD Ministry for academic, financial and administrative irregularities. However, the audit report did not make VC responsible for these irregularities.

A six-member committee did the audit of Allahabad University. The committee comprised of renowned and experienced professors from top educational institutes across the country. As per the suggestions of HRD Ministry, the University Grants Committee formed the committee. The team visited Allahabad University for three days, from November 13 to 15, 2017, to carry out the audit.
The report submitted by the committee highlighted the following problems: -
- Allahabad University is highly burdened with litigation. Currently, the varsity is fighting over 300 cases in court. These litigations are draining away the resources and time of the varsity. The shoddy framing of university ordinances and statures is the major reason for these litigations.
- Allahabad University is facing funds crunch, particularly non-plan funds, that are essential for releasing the salaries of employees on the campus.
- Allahabad University lacks a proper vision on the development activities. There is no appropriate future roadmap for the varsity.
- The audit report pointed out poor management system in the varsity, particularly at finance Office and Registrar’s Office.

The development activities of the varsity are being obstructed due to lack of adequate funds and proper planning. It is time for this central university to take steps for sorting out all the problems and focus on delivering quality education and research output.
