An Alumni of IIT Kharagpur Setup a Dairy Farm to Support Villagers
He is admired by all the villagers for his service-oriented activities.
Nihar Ranjan Beura, an alumni of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur took a break from his busy schedule and visited the native village which is located in Kendrapara district, Orissa. He set up a dairy farm in his village where the locals can buy pure milk at a lower price than the market price. He visits his village during weekends and looks after the farm. The farm consists of 32 hybrid high-yielding cows.
Mr. Nihar Ranjan works at KIIT University, Bhubaneshwar. His primary objective is to provide employment to at least ten families in the village. The farm is being run on a no-loss-no-profit basis. The amount which is being received from selling milk is used to rear the cows. He said that the project has given him immense pleasure and since two years he has been running the dairy farm successfully.

Nihar is a M.Tech graduate in Industrial Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. His father and brother had perished in the cyclone in 1967. He was just one year old at that time. His mother became a widow at the age of 25. He mentioned that his mother is the source of inspiration which led him to the path of success. His mother made a living by selling milk in the village since his childhood.
Nihar bought 35 jersey cows three years ago by spending Rs. 8 lakh and built a cattle shed at the cost of Rs. 10 lakh. Now, the cows can give 300 litres of milk a day, and around 12 families can earn a living by working on the dairy farm.

He also organises yoga, meditation and spiritual events in the college. Apart from these, he also provides career counselling to the poor students in the village. He is admired by all the villagers for his service-oriented activities.
