Andhra Pradesh Government Grants Permission for 149 New B.Ed Colleges
The course has been losing allure in the state, and the government is granting permission for new colleges.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh granted permission for the establishment of 149 colleges across 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. However, the government did not give clarity whether these colleges participate in AP EDCET 2016 counselling which is scheduled to commence from August 27, 2016.

Here is a list of number of B.Ed colleges to come up in various districts:-
- Prakasam – 63 colleges
- Kurnool – 25 colleges
- Kadapa – 18 colleges
- Vizayanagaram - 11 colleges
Currently, there are 243 B.Ed colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Each college has a maximum intake up to 100 seats. Now, around 14,000 additional B.Ed seats will come into existence.
This year, around 9,500 students took EDCET examination for the admission into B.Ed course. Surprisingly, only 380 students took the exam in Prakasam district. There are 4,000 B.Ed seats offered by various colleges in the region. It is wondering that why the government has given permission for 63 additional B.Ed colleges in the district.

Similarly, around 1,000 students took the entrance test in Guntur district. There are 4,000 seats in the region, and the government has given permission for five more colleges. The course has been losing allure in the state, and the government is granting permission for new colleges instead of reducing the intake. It has also been noted that most of these colleges are not functioning according to the prescribed norms by the state government.
