The Government of Andhra Pradesh has approved a proposal for introducing the semester system in D.Ed (Diploma in Elementary) course from this academic session (2019-20). The semester system in D.Ed course is applicable for all government and private DIET (Diploma in Elementary Training) colleges in Andhra Pradesh. So far, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, Delhi University and NIOS have been following the semester system in D.Ed course.

On June 12, 2019, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has forwarded an official letter all the DIETs regarding the implementation of semester system from 2019-20 academic session. The main objective of the government is to improve the quality of education and training that is being offered in DIET colleges across the state, which is possible by implementing the semester system.

The semester system in D.Ed course will play a vital role in imparting effective practical training to aspiring teachers. The syllabus for the semester-based D.Ed course has been prepared by the NCERT (National Council for Education Research and Training). The syllabus and curriculum for semester-based D.Ed course will be forwarded to all the colleges soon.

Apart from the revamping of D.Ed course in Andhra Pradesh, the state government has rolled out a plan to implement an Aadhaar-based biometric system in the private D.Ed colleges. The biometric system is already prevalent in government DIET colleges. Based on the biometric attendance of students, the government will prepare a list of students eligible for fee reimbursement.
