Andhra Pradesh: Protests Rock Medical and BDS Counselling
The students and parents who attended the counselling on the last day protested against the university regarding the implementation of NEET rules.
Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences filled up 667 ‘B’ category MBBS seats. The seat allotment was done based on the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) norms. The seat allotment concluded on September 4, 2016, amidst tight security.
The students and parents who attended the counselling on the last day protested against the university regarding the implementation of NEET rules. They argued with the authorities of University and demanded that the counselling to be cancelled. They also tried to stop the counselling. They accused that the authorities were selling seats to students from other states.

Parents demanded that the seats under ‘B’ category must be filled based on Article 361(D) of Presidential Orders. The seats under this category are applicable only to the students of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir.
The counselling was delayed by three hours and resumed later. Police intervened and brought the situation under control. The Registrar of University, Dr. Appala Naidu tried to convince the parents, but the efforts went in vain.

Parents demanded the varsity to introduce local and non-local reservations for medical and dental seats. The officials mentioned that the demand made by parents are not applicable according to the directives of Supreme Court.
