Dr. Kamineni Srinivas, Health Minister of Andhra Pradesh revealed that the Central Government has given an approval for 380 medical seats. The seats will be increased in seven government medical colleges across the state in medical clinical courses.

Dr. Kamineni Srinivas met JP Nadda, Union Health Minister and M. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Urban Development on March 14, 2017. After holding a meeting with the union ministers, Dr. Srinivas announced that the Union Health Ministry has given the nod for 380 additional medical seats. With the increase in the number of seats at seven government colleges, the number of seats in these colleges has been increased to 394.

Dr. Kamineni Srinivas further mentioned that the state government has also requested the Union Health ministry to reduce the cut-off score for NEET-PG. The ministry will take the decision on the same within a week. He also requested the Union Health Ministry to increase the examination centres for NEET examination. Currently, there are 1,300 dental and 4,500 medical seats in Andhra Pradesh and there are only two centres for NEET examination.

Therefore, the state government requested the centre to increase the number of examination centres for NEET. The state government proposed for Kurnool, Tirupati, Rajahmundry and Kakinada as the additional examination centres apart from the existing two test centres. The ministry will take the decision within a week.

Earlier, Dr. Kamineni Srinivas requested the centre to reduce NEET cut-off score so that more students will take admission to medical courses.
