The university has drafted the syllabus for all courses. Once the new Vice-Chancellor is appointed in February 2017, new CBCS system is likely to be introduced as per schedule.

It was in 2014 when Anna University introduced the CBCS system in its four autonomous colleges after the order of University Grants Commission. An official of the University said that they had sought a status report on the implementation of CBCS from all the autonomous colleges. All the colleges are following it. After the successful implementation of CBCS in four colleges of the university, Anna University has now initiated the process of introducing CBCS system in its affiliated colleges by next July 2017.

The University has also convened the meeting of the syllabus sub-committee. The University will present reports of that meeting in a series of eight Board of Studies meetings which is supposed to be held at end of January 2017. The final report will be presented at the academic council meeting for approval by March or April.

Syllabus subcommittee meeting was attended by:

  • Subject experts
  • Industry experts
  • Alumni
  • Members of the university administration

S Vaidhyasubramaniam, Dean of Planning and Development at SASTRA University said that implementation of CBCS mainly depends on the availability of faculty members. It is easy to build CBCS system, but it is tough to provide choice on a large scale. But the advent of a massive open online courses (MOOC) can minimise this in an affiliating system.

The University offers 91 courses in its affiliated colleges under 41 UG courses. The University has, under its umbrella around 500 non-autonomous affiliated colleges.
