AP Govt. Allocates Rs. 20,000 Crore for Education in Annual Budget

The government of Andhra Pradesh has made education its top priority by allocating more than Rs. 20,000 crore in the annual budget for the current financial year. Mr. Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, State Finance Minister presented the annual budget in the State Assembly on March 15, 2017.

According to sources, the government has allocated Rs. 20,384 crore for general education and Rs. 765 crore for technical education. With an objective to give a boost to skill development schemes, the government has allocated Rs. 398 crore separately. Apart from laying more emphasis to the education sector, the government also announced that special provisions would be framed for assistance to unemployed youth in the state. For this purpose, the government has allocated Rs. 500 crore.

Compared to the fiscal year 2016-17, the government has increased the allocation for education sector this year. During the financial year 2016-17, the government had allocated Rs. 17,503 for school education. Allocation of a separate fund to technical education by the government this year is noteworthy.

Interestingly, the government has allocated a ‘gender budget’ this year. Mr. Yanamala Ramakrishnudu revealed that the main objective of introducing ‘gender budget’ is to incorporate gender perspective at all levels. With an objective to improve the lives of women across all human development indicators, the government will undertake a comprehensive set of actions.

On the other hand, the government has also given clearance to 11 private universities to establish their campuses in Amaravati. The government wants to transform Andhra Pradesh into an educational hub in the coming years. Development of education and skills is important for the development of AP's new capital Amaravati.
