The Government of Andhra Pradesh has made a significant collaboration with the British Council to launch a programme to improve soft skills and employability of students. Through this programme, around 1,00,000 college and university students will be trained in soft skills.

In 2016, the Government of Andhra Pradesh invited the British Council to carry out a survey on the current situation of English language learning and teaching in the state. The British Council conducted an investigation in 14 higher learning institutes and 672 learners, 139 teachers and 90 staff members participated in it.

After completing the survey, the British Council submitted a report that emphasised a strong need to develop the soft skills and language proficiency of students who are enrolled in various higher learning institutes across the state.

Through this significant partnership, the students will be trained in various areas that include preparation for interviews, resume writing, better employability, confidence building and spoken English communication. The main objective of the AP government is to transform the state into a knowledge hub by developing an ecosystem, which targets youth employability and development.

The project that is being launched by the state government is unique and it offers innovative and new approaches to assessment and language learning. The British Council has developed scalable, flexible and digital self-access solutions that were developed considering the extensive research about the required parameters of teaching English and needs of learners.

The project involves 150 hours of blended learning model that is supplemented with English clubs and mobile learning. The project also includes the training of 2,500 teachers and 150 master trainers.
