Andhra Pradesh State Skills Development Corporation is a unique organization run by the Government of Andhra Pradesh which provides training in various skills to Degree/PG students, SHG’s, B.Tech Students and others. The main objective of the organization is to make the educated youth especially the students of rural areas capable of getting jobs in various companies related to their qualification. The APSSDC is funded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh for organizing training sessions.
The organization provides training in soft skills to the students who are studying in various degree colleges in Andhra Pradesh. It also provides training to B.Tech students. As most of the engineering colleges conduct soft skills training on their own, the APSSDC concentrates mostly on degree colleges. More than 10,000 UG students across Andhra Pradesh have been trained in soft skills and personality development in the year 2015-2016.
The APSSDC appoints resource persons from various Universities and Aided college to give training to the students. The training is usually conducted for a period of 40 days every year. The training is conducted in the month of March and April every year. After training the students for a period of 40 days, the APSSDC conducts Job Fair and invites various companies for recruitment. This way the APSSDC is promoting employment opportunities for the students. In Andhra Pradesh the placement percentage of UG colleges is less compared to engineering colleges.
So, the APSSDC is trying to provide employment opportunities to UG/PG students on par with engineering students.
The APSSDC has set up Skills Development Centers at various colleges in Andhra Pradesh which provide training to the students of various skills. These colleges also organize summer camps and train people in computers, handicrafts and other skills. The APSSDC also works for women empowerment.
Most of the students studying in Government Colleges opined that, “The Andhra Pradesh Government has taken a good initiative in assuring guarantee employment for talented educated youth. Students who can’t afford to join in corporate colleges study in government colleges. The APSSDC took a step forward to help students of Government Colleges and provide them employment opportunities”.
It is apt to say that the APSSDC is a boon for the students especially for the students who are studying in government colleges as well as for the students of rural areas. The APSSDC is planning to train more number of students and provide more number of employment opportunities in the future.
